2013 Volkswagen Jetta Bulldog Commercial – What’s the Song?
At one time or another, every dog owner has had to deal with their canine’s bizarre appetite — whether it’s a favorite pair of shoes, the television remote control or even a set of car keys being eaten. In a hysterical new 2013 Volkswagen Jetta commercial promoting their effortless key-less ignition system, the car maker capitalizes on this furry friend faux pas, using Johnny Cash‘s ‘Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog’ as the soundtrack to the humorous promo spot.
“Well he’s not very handsome to look at / Oh he’s shaggy and he eats like a hog,” croons Cash, obviously not directly addressing the adorable pup spotlighted in the commercial. The obscure album track never received a proper radio single treatment, but was a fan favorite from the singer’s 1968 live album, ‘At Folsom Prison.’
