Back in April of this year, Dyess Air Force Base announced that they would be shutting down both pools this summer to cut back on costs. Well, one city councilman has stepped up to the plate to offer the city pools to military families for free.

City councilman, Joe Spano, decided to help out our military families in Abilene by collecting donations for vouchers that will let a military family swim for free. He contacted the city pools who agreed to put a voucher system in place called 'Operation Cool Down'. Those vouchers will be distributed to First Sergeants, who will then distribute them to military families.

So far, the city has raised about $4,000, but hope fore about $10,000.

If you would like to help, donations can be made by check to the Abilene Chamber of Commerce Foundation. On your check's memo line, write "Military Pool Passes".

You can also drop off donations at H & H beverage on Rebecca Lane, or contact Debra Morotini, Director of Military Affairs at the Chamber of Commerce by calling 325-677-7241 ext. 204.
