The Abilene area had a pretty mild winter last year and it looks to be much of the same for this year.

Warmer than normal conditions are most likely across the southern U.S., extending northward through the central Rockies, in Hawaii, in western and northern Alaska and in northern New England. [NOAA/NWS]

Along with warm temperatures, we can expect dry conditions. That's not great news as the lack of rainfall will mean our area reservoir levels will drop. I guess we need to hope for another wet spring.

So, it looks like we'll have a mild winter here in the Abilene area. That is, according to the National Weather Service.

The Old Farmer's Almanac has a similar forecast for our winter months:

Winter will be much warmer than normal, with below-normal precipitation and near-normal snowfall. The coldest periods will be in late December, early to mid- and mid- to late January, and early February. The snowiest periods in the north will be in mid- and late November, late December, and early February. [Old Farmer's Almanac]

Here's a video from NOAA to help explain it all for us.
