The popular FX series, American Horror Story, has been renewed for a forthcoming Season 7 set to air in 2017, according The Hollywood Reporter.

“Ryan [Murphy], Brad [Falchuk] and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping American Horror Story endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining, and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment,” said John Landgraf, the CEO of FX Networks and Productions.

“The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style," he continued. "Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast and twists. We thank the creators and their team, the cast and everyone who has continued to make AHS such an extraordinary series.”

The news comes a mere three episodes into the show’s current Season 6, the premiere of which is reportedly the third-most-watched episode in American Horror Story’s history and is also the fifth-highest-rated of the entire series.

The premiere’s strong numbers likely stemmed from the mystery surrounding American Horror Story: Roanoke's plot line. Show runners Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk admitted to purposely misleading fans with the release of the show’s teaser trailers — only one of which actually hinted at Season 6’s true plot.

John Landgraf explained, “What [FX marketing president] Stephanie Gibbons and her team, with Ryan’s help, did is they went out and made many more trailers for hypothetical seasons of American Horror Story; different genres and different places.

"One of them is accurate and the others are all misdirects,” he said. “So we’re just having fun with it, and we just thought it would be fun after five years of doing it one way.”
