In American Idol’s final season, 15-year-old Tristan McIntosh has been burning up the stage with her powerful renditions of country tunes, including Carrie Underwood’s “Last Name,” and now, Rascal Flatts’ "What Hurts the Most." This song is particularly special to her, as she originally sang it for her solo Hollywood audition, dedicating it to her mother, who serves overseas in the Army.

This passion and emotion was even more present in her latest performance in the Top 14 as she attempts to earn a slot in the Top 10. While her renditions of “Last Name” and Mickey Guyton’s “Why Baby Why” in past weeks were impressive enough to put McIntosh through to the following rounds, this particular delivery was a show-stopper. It’s difficult to believe she’s only 15 years old, as she sings with the skill and maturity of someone twice her age. Her unique R&B-infused country twang is sure to keep her around well into the following weeks.

The judges, including country’s Keith Urban, were captivated by the performance.

"First of all, let me say that was a beautiful song choice, for your voice, for the way you did it," said the star. "I really felt like we heard and saw a side of you we haven't seen yet. Beautiful."

The farewell season of 'Idol' is bringing back many notable country alumni, including Lauren Alaina and Kellie Pickler, who both recently stopped by to duet with contestants. Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are also expected to make appearances later in the season.
