You’ve been told since you were a little kid to eat your fruits and veggies.

These time-honored words of wisdom seem to falling on deaf ears, though.

Despite this drumbeat of nutritional advice, most Americans are still consuming less than half of the USDA recommendation of two-and-a-half cups of vegetables and two cups of fruit a day.

But according to a survey from Food Information Council Foundation that’s not for a lack of effort. The poll of 1,057 adults found that 87 percent have tried to eat more fruits and vegetables than they are currently consuming.
