Getting stars you loved in the ’80s and ’90s and putting them in commercials seems to be the trend nowadays. Hot on the heels of ’80s teen-idol Matthew Broderick taking a”day off” for a Super Bowl commercial, now comes an ad starring two well-dressed teen idols from the early ’90s.
This year’s Oscars was a rather dull affair. The only saving grace came from actress Angelina Jolie, and her right leg, which she exposed through the slit black dress she wore on the big night. The resulting leg pose gave us, and the internet, enough inspiration to poke fun. It also didn’t take long for a new internet meme, affectionately called “Jolie’ing,” to go viral.
Kids love and look up to Captain America from ‘The Avengers,’ so it was a shock for this one boy to see his favorite superhero show up on his doorstep. Though the bigger shock came when he realized that this real-life strong man was actually his army dad returning from Afghanistan.
If only presidential campaign videos all looked and sounded this cool. YouTube user Hugh Atkin‘s latest upload has racked up tens of thousands of views in just a matter of days. Why? Because if you take Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” and replace the original lyrics with Mitt Romney quotes, and make it rhyme perfectly, you get the internet to “please stand up” and pay attention.
With ‘The Hunger Games‘ set to hit theaters this week, Next Movie decided to give the movie’s characters a makeover every popular (or soon to be) character needs in order to say they have “made it big” in showbiz. Why, their own ‘Simpsons‘ character of course! Check out what Katniss, Peeta and the gang would look like as residents of Springfield below.
It was the largest gathering of humans dressed in green suits anywhere. (Well, outside of St. Patrick’s Day, that is.) 836 men, women and children displayed “Turtle power” at Minnesota’s Mall of America when they set a new record for the largest gathering of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans, beating the previous record of 786 set at Rutgers University in 2008. We like to imagine all 836 fans shouted “Cowabanga!” after the folks at the Guinness World Records gave them the news.
Adele is inescapable these days. The British singer continues to dominate the charts, and her songs are all over the radio and YouTube, thanks to aspiring singers uploading their covers of her many hits. Adele’s music influences both young and old alike. Even the really young adore Adele, as evidenced by two-year-old Makena, who looks so cute as she mumbles through ‘Someone Like You.’
Time to go “awwwww” again. This burly old man seems to possess the amazing ability to put a litter of Boxer puppies to sleep just by singing to them. He begins singing softly to them, and one by one, the puppies just fall into their blankets and close their eyes.
When the ‘Harry Potter‘ franchise was all the rage, some students brought the fictional game of Quidditch to life, even giving the sport a league of its own. With the impending release of the next big teen franchise, ‘The Hunger Games,’ a high school in Connecticut has created a real life version of the game — minus the ‘battle-to-your-death’ part. And would you believe it’s being hosted by the school’s library?
Using Kung-Fu to market a golf game? The makers of ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13,’ Electronic Arts, seem to think it’s a good idea. EA has unveiled a viral commercial starring the basketball giant Shaquille O’ Neal and the game’s title master Tiger Woods. Dressed in traditional samurai garb, the two sports legends bow in honor before…well, you’ll have to watch.
Imagine all your favorite childhood memories combined into one awesome toy. That’s exactly what LEGO fan Julius von Brunk did when he created the ‘Domaster & Tetrawing’ – an amalgamation of the Nintendo Game Boy, the game ‘Tetris’ and Transformers – that is actually a transforming “Nintendobot.” Check out how the Tetris cartridge transforms into the ‘Tetrawing’ robot below. It’ll put your LEGO skills to shame.
