What is in essence an Easter egg hunt for college kids, has been dubbed (by the Hardin Simmons University students) the ‘Egg Scramble’. The eggs (approximately 1,400 eggs) will be hidden inside of the Richardson Library on the HSU campus. The eggs are stuffed with great prizes too.
The Abilene Ruff Riders kick off their first home game this Saturday night March 31st, at the Taylor county coliseum at 7pm. With the start of the new season comes with it, a new promotion on the morning show with me and my partner Pete Beretta. Listen for the KEAN-105 ‘touch tones’ on the Thursday’s prior to a home game to win the “Rudy’s Rowdy Ruff Riders” prize package.
The KEAN 105 engineer was asked to make room for more computers and other stuff that needed to be stored, so he cleaned out the closet adjacent to the KEAN studio and presto there are boxes of vintage KEAN clothing, tons of it.
Is it me, or are there more black great tailed grackles in Abilene than ever before? If you have ever tried to go to the Mall of Abilene, get a cup of coffee or go to the supermarket on Buffalo Gap road at sunset you have to walk fast and watch where you walk too. The black birds have made a mess of the parking lots, not to mention the health risks associated with the mounds of bird droppings everywhere.
Having experienced a Tartan Day celebration first hand, I am very familiar with the rich and proud heritage the Scottish and Irish have. My wife’s side of the family celebrate it in a grand traditional fashion with the clothes, food and drink. National Tartan Day will be celebrated at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Departments, Abilene state park on April 14th 2012, and the event is open to the public. Here is what will transpire during the days events.
As April first nears, I start getting anxiety attacks because it’s the one day a year I really dislike. I’ve never really liked pranks being pulled on me, even though my morning show partner Pete Beretta is the king of the pranks and he tries everyday to get me. So I thought I’d research the internet for all the latest gags, jokes and pranks so that at least I’ll have a heads up on all the latest pranks
Now that spring has sprung the need to cut grass is evident, as a matter of fact I had to look twice to find my dog in the back yard, because the grass is so high. When I was younger I really liked mowing, it was like a ‘right of passage’ you know, a guy thing, the lawn is my turf thing. Today, the wife can have it, as I was mowing I realized, I don’t like mowing anymore and it’s because I’ve got an older lawnmower, It’s slow and has virtually a 10 mile turning radius. The more I mowed yesterday, the more I loathed mowing, I discovered I want a new mower, I need a new mower, I deserve a new mower after all she just got a new ‘Dyson’ vacuum cleaner, that’s almost the same thing. So my search began.
‘October Baby‘ opens in select theaters across the country this Friday March 23 2012, during this election year this movie will deal with a hot political topic, abortion. The Abilene city council is considering adding, updating and/or changing some laws concerning your pets. Some of the cities ordinances will include other pets not just precluding to ‘dogs’, say you live in an apartment and you have four or more animals, depending on the size of your domicile you may have to get rid of some pets. Another ordinance is the ‘vicious dog’ ordinance, say someone comes onto your property (with or without your knowledge and/or permission) and your dog bites that person, your dog could be considered a ‘vicious and/or dangerous dog’ and could be taken from you and be put down by the city’s dog pound. Here’s what the Rescue the Animals folks had to say in their press release.
I’m a little more than concerned about these Mayan calendar predictions I keep hearing about. The main reason for my concern is, I just bought this awesome time share in Hawaii, and my week starts on December 22nd 2012. Now I’m faced with, should I sell it and buy survival gear instead?
With spring in full bloom it’s time to start planting, fertilizing and seeding our yards, flowers, plants and trees. If you’re anything like me I welcome all the colorful birds that come with spring. I’m even getting my hummingbird feeders ready, when I remembered, I just received an email trying to sell me something they call a “Hummingbird Vine”, after a closer look and further investigation I discovered that it’s really more commonly known as “Trumpet Vine”. In fact it’s the same vine that grows like crazy around West Texas and the very vine my wife and I tried to kill out of our fence several years ago. Isn’t this “whatever vine” really a weed?
If you are in the belief that science is getting out of control, that the medical field is playing God at times, and that reproductive medical scientists are pushing the outer limits. Hardin Simmons University will be tackling all of the above. HSU professors and guest speakers will discuss the subject of ‘Bioethics’. The upcoming ethics forum is a two-day event and is set for March 22-23, 2012, on the HSU campus. Organizers say that this will be an annual event.
