March is Half Price Dogs and Cats at the Animal Shelter [VIDEO]
Rescue the Animals, KEAN 105 and the City of Abilene have teamed up together to offer West Texans half price dogs and cats from the Abilene Animal Control Shelter. Spring is near and the fact is, there will be an increase of puppies and kittens at the shelter, so we are trying to head off an over-crowding problem before it ever occurs.

Many Asian countries are finding that rat meat is in high demand and prices are starting to skyrocket, in many southeast Asian communities, the rare rat meat delicacies sell for more than six dollars a pound. Restaurants are now selling rat in many different Asian style dishes, but mostly rat is consumed fried or barbequed.

HSU Students Pledge to not Text While Driving [VIDEO]
Hardin Simmons University students chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, will join in a campaign asking students to pledge a promise to not Text While Driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that in 2008, 5,800 people were killed all due to distracted drivers. The NTSA says those numbers are climbing more every year.

Career Fair and Expo is Coming To Abilene
Next Tuesday February 28th the Town Square Media Career ‘Career Fair and Expo’ will open at the Abilene Civic Center. Show organizer Kim Meyer said that various local business will be on hand to assist and answer questions for the career fair attendees. The events is scheduled to take place from 9am till 6pm and is open to the public.

Art Walk Will Feature 8 HSU Students Artwork
The Center for Contemporary Arts hosts Art-Walk the second Thursday of every month, Art-Walk is free and open to the public. On many occasions the Center for Contemporary Arts, features the work of local artisans, at the March 8th Art-Walk, Roberts Studio will be hosting the art from eight Hardin Simmons University students. The upcoming exhibition is by art students Alx Dockter, William Wright, Sandra Deanda, Kayla Beall, Sarah Davidson, Lauren Jay, Alyssa Derrick, and Cesar Matera. The exhibition will be called, “Misconstructions,” utilizing several mediums, done by the eight seniors that are set to graduate May 2012.

St. Jude Radiothon Raises Nearly $40,000 in 26 Hours
The KEAN 105 and Rock 108 St. Jude Radiothon raised over $38,580 in the 26 hour broadcast Thursday and Friday. The fund-raising is not over, KEAN’s sister rock-station Rock 108 is hosting a concert Monday evening at the Lucky Mule, proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Plus you can still donate (for a limited time) online through the KEANradio.com website.

It all started when Demetri a former Greek restaurant owner and cabaret performer turned electrician saw and advertisement for ‘Britain’s Got Talent‘. Demetri incorporated his son Lagi into the routine and they both auditioned for Simone Cowell and others, to the judges amazement the two were funny and actually the twosome found a way into every one’s heart as their favorite act on Britain’s Got Talent.

Tire off of Space Shuttle Columbia Comes to Cross Plains Library
After many months of paper shuffling and countless weeks of submitting written requests and hours of planning events and activities, a piece of history is finally coming to the Cross Plains library. One of the tires off of the Space Shuttle Columbia will be making at least a three year tour stop in the Big Country.
