As I drive around Abilene I see a lot of empty buildings, I wonder if most are due to the strained economy. Then I realized that one particular business has a commonality: video rental stores. So I pondered, “Has Redbox Killed the Video Stores in Abilene?”
During the 44th annual Texas Water Utilities Association’s Regional Water School, over 300 employees of municipalities and water districts in Central West Texas, judged tap water from cities throughout the State. Three cities in West Texas were winners of the ‘Best Tasting Water’ contest.
The 23rd annual ‘Friends of the Abilene Public Library’ book sale at the Abilene Civic Center is scheduled for June 7-10. The sale includes over one hundred thousand books, videos and cassette tapes, DVDs, CDs, records and more.
The Texas League of Women Voters and our local Abilene Public Library are offering a free ‘Voters Guide’ to help voters make informed decisions. In the statewide race the guide will attempt to have the pertinent information for the primary races. These races include U. S. We were having a discussion today on what different acronyms mean, obviously T.G.I.F is the most popular and for the most part stands for “Thank God It’s Friday”, or “Thank Goodness It’s Friday”. Somebody said it stood for (and I love this one) “Thank God I’m Forgiven”. As the day wears on, I’ve heard more meanings for T.G.I.F. than I have ever heard before.
Wow! Has it been a year already? The Abilene fire fighters and Dyess AFB fire fighters ‘Fill the Boot’ campaign for M.D.A. will take place this weekend May 10th, 11th and 12th, 2012. I’m conducting my own, not-so scientific, survey here at the radio station, as to where mom would prefer to go eat this Mother’s Day. It seems that dads are all too willing to make suggestions, but I don’t believe he’s got mom in mind when it comes to his decision.
It's been said of the weather in Abilene, If you don't like it, wait five minutes it'll change. With that said, one question comes to mind, what are the single worst weather days that we've experienced? The Hottest, coldest, rainiest, snowiest, windiest and finally stormiest.
Two Sundays ago, Pastor McQueen at Beltway Baptist Church said in passing, “we need to pray for rain.” This past Sunday I was visiting Wylie Christian Church and Pastor Doug said, “man It’s getting hot, y’all we need to pray for some rain.” Granted, Abilene’s in one of the worst droughts in recent history and we need rain, but is that what we really pray for?
It’s time for the 5th Annual Big Country Homebrewers Association Big Brew Day, this Saturday May 5th from 11am till 5pm. This year the local home-brewers are holding a fundraiser in conjunction with the Big Brew Day.
