Abilene Lions Clubs Offer a Holiday Flag Service

Independence Day is Thursday this year, and it's time to take a good look at Old Glory to make sure she's fit to fly. I just can't remember all the different holidays in which it's okay to fly the flag. I know there's the 4th of July, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Flag Day. One time I forgot to take it down my flag at night, then there's the unexpected storms, is it too faded or tattered. There's so much to remember right? The Abilene Area Lions Clubs to the rescue

The Top 5 Songs From the Summer of 1985

My wife and I went down to The Record Guys to get a needle for my dad's record player.

While we were there, we looked through thousands of albums. Then, from across the store, Donna yells "honey look, do you remember this one?" as she held up the vintage Steve Wariner album "One Good Night Deserves Another". That was the album that had his first number one hit "Some Fools Never Learn". The summer of '85 also had other amazing songs like it.

Thompson Square’s Summer of 2013 Song is “Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About”

Thompson Square's new summer fun song "Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About" is a love song for grown-ups, if you know what I mean. Keifer Thompson takes the lead on this one, while wife Shawna follows up with a rebuttal.  This is truly a husband and wife, who are in love with each other type of love song. While their single "Glass" was so far removed from their comfort zone, I think this new song brings them back to the Thompson Square of old.

The Top 5 Songs From the Summer of 2000

Power outages like we experienced in Abilene Monday evening (6/17) reminded me of when the air conditioner broke at our house in the summer of 2000.

That was the year Donna and I spent a lot of time on the back porch trying to keep cool. We sipped iced tea and listened to music like "Cowboy Take Me Away" by the Dixie Chicks and "How Do You Like Me Now" by Toby Keith. The summer of 2000 also had other awesome songs like them.

Hurricane Strength Winds Hit Abilene Leaving a Trail Of Destruction [PICTURES]

I knew the minute the NOAA weather guys said that these storms are capable of producing winds up to 70 miles an hour that Abilene and the Big Country would be seeing some serious damage. When the storm was over I went out to see what was banging on the side of my house, that's when I noticed trees were up-rooted and shingles were spread out all over my yard. I looked around to see which neighbor lost their roof, only to discover those shingles were off of my house.

Toby Keith’s “Drinks After Work” is Different From His Other Songs [AUDIO]

"Drinks After Work" is Toby Keith's first release from the yet to be titled, forth coming album, due out the end of 2013. This song was written by his friends Luke Laird, Barry Dean and Natalie Hemby, which explains why this song sounds nothing like a typical Toby Keith tune. Don't get me wrong, this is one awesome song and I think it's the kind of change the Oklahoma native needs.
