When summer rolls around you try to find cool places to vacation in Texas. Barton Springs Pool in Austin is the perfect getaway for the family.

Much like Balmorhea, which I've written about as well, this pool is spring fed and remains at 68-70 degrees year round. Located within Zilker Park this is the perfect afternoon getaway for friends, family or just some alone time. It's only $1-$4 for entry into the park/pool.

The pool is also home to some rather unique wildlife. The Barton Springs Salamander is an endangered species that likes to hang at the pool as much as you do. They don't take up much space though,as they are only 1/2" - 3" long. This is the only place you will see this particular little guy so please be respectful of them.

The pool is about 900 feet long and is up to 18 feet deep in some areas. There is a large grassy area surrounding the pool for lounging, sunning, or hanging with friends. There are some do's and don't at the pool such as no alcohol, no coolers/ice chests, no smoking or food and more.

There are lifeguards on duty for the majority of the day but there are some non-guarded hours as well. The pool is open daily 5am - 10 pm. If you're in the Austin area then do stop by the Barton Springs for a little dip in the pool.
