Bluegrass music has a rich and varied history, and it's showcased in the nominees for Best Bluegrass Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Last year, the Infamous Stringdusters and Rhonda Vincent and the Rage tied for the trophy, a testament to the high caliber of talent you'll find in the category.

Portraits in Fiddles by Mike Barnett is the first Best Bluegrass Album nominee on the list for the 2019 Grammy Awards, followed by Sister Sadie II the second eponymous album from the all-star collective Sister Sadie. Rivers and Roads, meanwhile, is the 19th recording from bluegrass band Special Consensus, who have been a fixture in the genre since 1979.

Also genre stalwarts are the Travelin' McCourys, who are nominated for their eponymous album this year. Lastly, North of Despair by Texas band Wood & Wire is the final nominee in the category; it's an album that the band says captures their frenetic live energy.
