Best Places To Find Christmas Trees In Abilene – Our Top 7

Meet The Flockers At Mankin and Sons
Mankin and Sons Gardens (and now add Floral Boutique) has been in the nursery business for over 50 years, it's no wonder why they are the best and only flockers in Abilene. They will flock artificial, living and freshly cut trees but their specialty is "custom trees." If you want someone else to put up and decorate your tree, then the Mankin family is it. They offer living trees and after the holidays you plant them or they'll plant it for you. They offer fresh cut trees in several popular varieties and they carry a big selection of artificial trees. Mankin and Sons is the only place that still offers "full service" everything from design to delivery to set-up and finally take-down and pack it all way. Their florist makes a big difference in decorating, because everything is show quality and she offers a total home decorating package to match the tree to the rest of the house. Artificial and live trees are available now with cut trees arriving daily.
Garden World's Christmas Everything
The title says it all, if they don't have it they will order it. Garden World carries a very popular brand of trees called "Santa's Own" they're very high end and top quality with a five year pro-rated warranty. I saw every kind of decoration imaginable, which brings me to this point, Garden World has the biggest selection of artificial trees in Abilene period. If you want a tree in your high school colors, they've got it. If you want a Cowboy/Cowgirl tree, they've got it. If you want that aluminum-retro-late 1950's tree that is shiny silver, they've got those too. Garden World will also be getting their cut trees soon, according to Debby and David, owner Larry Brewster has sold more cut trees than any anyone else in Abilene. Garden World will have everything to decorate your tree but they will not decorate it for you, they want to share some of life's little pleasures with you by affording you the chance to decorate it yourself. As David said "we just sell them." Garden World has everything you will ever need to decorate any tree and they offer Christmas lights by the foot.
Baack's Florist Snowing Tree
At Baack's Florist they are the oldest and best known flower shop in West Texas, however flowers ain't the name of the game this time of year. While Baack's Florist is well known to all the nurseries and loyal customers in the Big Country as a major supplier of locally grown beautiful Poinsettias. They too are putting on the Ritz when it comes to Christmas. Their trees also come bare or fully decorated and if you prefer they will do a complete set up and take down for you. Baack's has always been known as the industry leader and innovator when it comes to marketing Christmas. The Harwell family has had a finger on the pulse of the consumer for years as they always carry what the other tree vendors don't, like the "Snowing Christmas Tree." If you want one you better hurry they only have two in stock and they will go fast, one of these rarities will hit you for at least $400. But at least you'll have snow on Christmas day and every other day for that matter.
Lowes Knows Tall Trees
If size matters to you, then Lowes has got you covered whether you're looking for a 12 to 16 foot or taller tree the carry them in plain of artificially flocked. Besides having a good selection of varied sizes of Christmas trees, they also have the coolest tree I've seen yet, (next to the Snowy Tree). It's a Palm Christmas Tree complete with wired-in Christmas lighting. Better get your pocket book cause that little Palm-Tree gem will cost you $149. Lowes is an excellent place to find those novelty "pop-culture" decorations like NASCAR, Coca Cola Bears, Barbie and lots of others. But remember when you buy a 16 foot tall Christmas tree remember to purchase double the ornaments and a real good tall ladder.
The Home Depot Lights Up Christmas
Here is a great example of how The Home Depot has something that doesn't compete with the others. The Home Depot has the best selection of LED lighted Christmas trees. Other stores I visited and asked if they carried the new LED lighted trees, while most admitted to only having one or two, The Home Depot stocks almost all their trees in the new environmentally friendly LED lighted trees. Not only will they save you at least 80% on your electric bill compared to the conventional lighting of trees, the LED lit trees are far better and a thousand times more fire safe because the LED lights never get hot. The selection of decorations was not that great there but their prices and selection of LED trees far exceeded all the other stores.
Big Lots Has Lots of Trees for Less
Although It was a "Saturday pay-day weekend" the tree shopping was like a war-zone and it was everyman for himself. There were people just snatching up Christmas trees by the arm-loads. At one point this elderly woman pushed her cart through the crowd and began stuffing the cart with trees and ornaments. I guess by the looks of it, Big Lots had some (according to my wife) "really great prices on their trees." What I did find was that nearly every tree was wired for lights. Some had single colored lights while others had multicolored lights. The most popular ones were the new energy saving LED trees (which appeared to be the ones everybody was going for). They do have trees and decorations but I'll admit in my humble opinion, "their Christmas tree department, looks like looters hit it after the riots." The poor workers were more than glad to go to the back and check for more inventory. I did speak with an employee (who wanted to remain anonymous) who told me that more were trees coming in, and shipments arriving daily. Good luck and keep your head below the radar.
Allsup's has Real Cut Trees Too
When I drove up to the Allsup's to inquire about the "Fresh Cut Pine Trees," one look at their trees leaning on the building had me feeling like a 'Charlie Brown Christmas" movie was about to begin. Just looking at those trees I had ask myself "who buys these trees?" The answer comes from an employee who told me, 'she was buying one for herself because she doesn't have the time or the money to buy a real tree.' The gentleman behind the counter said "if you'd like a tree, it'll cost you $30 plus tax." The real bummer is that Allsup's does not carry decorations or tree stands, so you're on your own there. On the up side of things at least we can still buy a real "fresh cut" tree at any hour of the day or night. Something about those fresh cut trees is making me sentimental, i want a cup of hot cocoa, some sugar cookies and a Charlie Brown Christmas movie.
