James Bond movies have been thrilling audiences for years, and fans are just as excited for the 23rd installment 'Skyfall' to hit theaters as they were back in the days of 'Dr. No.' Needless to say, 007 is one of those characters that will live on long after we're all gone, but the franchise still faces the never-ending task of making this secret agent character and story line just as interesting to watch as the previous films.

This has partly been accomplished with the numerous actors portraying Bond -- Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Barry Nelson, Daniel Craig, etc. -- but are we now ready to see someone completely different take on the role? Are we ready to see a black James Bond?

Our current Bond, Daniel Craig, has two more films left on his contract. 'Bond 24' is already expected to premiere in late 2014 with Benedict Cumberbatch rumored to be the next villain. Naturally, though, we all want to know about the future of James Bond, and to that end, talk of Idris Elba taking on the role as the first black James Bond has been buzzing as of late.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, 'Skyfall' actress Naomi Harris revealed that her 'Mandella: Long Walk to Freedom' co-star, Idris Elba, spoke with James Bond movie producer Barbara Broccoli about possibly picking up the lead role in future installments. "I didn’t realize that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he’s a great guy."

We must keep in mind that this meeting she referred to is the most preliminary of preliminary meetings, but that hasn't stopped fans from imagining Elba in this fashion. The 'Luther' star has expressed interest in assuming the role if it came to him. The other actors on the shortlist to pickup where Craig will be leaving off consists of Hugh Jackman, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender, all hot with recent buzz for 'The Wolverine,' 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'Prometheus'/'X-Men: First Class' movies. However, with Elba in the lead role, aside from being the first black 007, one can only assume that a reboot of the franchise would be in order. Are we ready for that?

Daniel Craig has previously supported the idea of having a black James Bond character, but what do you think? Are you ready to see an African American version of James Bond? What about Idris Elba? Is he your pick to succeed Daniel Craig? Join the discussion by voting in our poll below and sounding off in the comments!
