Summer is here, the kids are out of school and it's time to do a little traveling. If you want to stay close to home Texas has some wonderful little places to visit. Such as the Blanco Lavender Festival in the Texas Hill Country. Not only will the scenery be beautiful but imagine the smell of lavender everywhere.

This year is the 10 annual Lavender Festival. Not only can you visit and tour local lavender farms but there will also be, local artisans with products for sale, cooking demonstrations, meals, dances and more.

Blanco is North of San Antonio and West of Austin, in the middle of the beautiful Hill Country. This year's event runs Friday-Sunday, June 13-15. Blanco in Spanish means white, and the town is named for the white limestone hills in the area. The land around the area is also covered in light purple flowers known as lavender. The alkalinity of the limestone feeds the needs of the lavender plant.

The blooming season for lavender is late spring, early summer; usually May - July.

For more information on the Festival visit the Blanco Chamber of Commerce website.
