On Sunday night (Nov. 23), Brantley Gilbert took home his very first American Music Award, and it was a big one. Gilbert was honored with Favorite Album - Country, besting some pretty significant names.

The star's 'Just as I Am' is clearly a favorite -- the AMAs are fan-voted wins, and BG Nation is loud, so it's no huge surprise that Gilbert pocketed the prize, even though he was nominated against legend Garth Brooks and the very popular Eric Church.  After all, in 2014, Gilbert is one of the most notable names in country music.

Several men from 'Shark Tank' presented Gilbert with the award, also discussing how difficult it is to be a musician. They introduced the three male nominees by referring to them as "top dogs" in the genre, which is an accurate description.

Before taking the stage to accept his first AMA, Gilbert kissed his new fiancee. At the mic, he seemed nervous and genuinely shocked that he had won. "I wasn’t expecting this," Gilbert admitted, thanking Scott Borchetta and everyone else at Big Machine Label Group.

Gilbert mentioned how everyone, no matter what genre, took time to thank the people who don't get recognized as much. He did the same, making sure to thank his fans most of all. Of course, he also called attention to his bride-to-be, who has greatly influenced his music.

"My beautiful fiancee is here tonight,” the singer said into the mic, looking happy in love.

Before walking off the stage, he had one more message for BG Nation: "This one is for y’all. Thank y’all so much for having me. I appreciate it."
