Fans ‘Blown Away’ by Carrie Underwood’s ‘CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock’ Performance

For a brief moment on Monday, Carrie Underwood seemed vulnerable. After finishing ‘Blown Away,’ the singer appeared to be out of breath. One wondered how she’d begin the equally challenging ‘Last Name,’ but then she made it look easy. ”This is what not to do at CMA Fest, OK,” Underwood said before beginning her 2008 hit during the ‘Country’s Night to Rock’ special.
It was ‘Blown Away’ that was the segment highlight, however. The song finds the original country ‘American Idol’ winner reaching for notes most artists only hear about as some sort of rumor to verify on Snopes.com. Underwood’s performance on this June night (the airing was pre-taped) wasn’t quite as brooding as what fans have seen in the music video. It is difficult to be afraid of a smiling blonde in a girl-next-door American flag T-shirt, after all.
This is the third time Underwood has been featured on annual the Monday night CMA Fest special. It’s no coincidence that she’ll be back on ABC Nov. 1 to host the CMA Music Awards with Brad Paisley for another year. One figures Luke Bryan and the Band Perry will also play heavy roles during that broadcast, as they — along with Rascal Flatts and Jason Aldean — received the most TV time this evening.
