Carrie Underwood has signed with Capitol Records Nashville (part of Universal Music Group), meaning she's no longer on Sony Music Nashville. Underwood says she's excited about her future and feels the team at Universal Music Group share the heart and passion she has for music.

The label switch marks an end to a nearly 12-year partnership with Sony and Arista Nashville. After winning American Idol in 2005, Underwood signed a joint deal with Sony and 19 Recordings and has released five studio albums since, including her most recent Storyteller album. All five have been certified at least platinum, with most going two, three or even eight times platinum (Some Hearts). A source with knowledge of the deal tells Taste of Country 19 Recordings is not a part of this new record deal.

Unforgettable Carrie Moments

Underwood's radio success is also remarkable. None of the two dozen singles she's released have finished outside the Top 5 on radio airplay charts, with over a dozen going to No. 1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart. Add in her many awards, sold-out tours and nine straight years hosting the CMA Awards and you have one of the most successful female artists of all time.

A press release did not indicate when Underwood will release her first single and album as a UMG artist. Previously, she hinted that a long break was in her future — this label change no doubt played a role in that conversation. "Dirty Laundry" was her last official single as a Sony Music artist. In discussing her future Underwood made it a point to remember those who've helped her get this far.

"I also want to be sure to thank every single person who has played a part in my recording career so far," Underwood says. "I will be forever grateful to them for all we achieved together."
