What looked like one of the big box office showdowns of the summer turned out to not be battle at all. Not only did 'Fast and Furious 6' take the number one spot at the box office, it did it while shattering records, leaving 'The Hangover Part 3' coughing on its exhaust.
The current discussion around 'The Avengers 2' has shifted from the stars demanding higher pay to something equally inside baseball: the rights to the characters of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. In the pages of the comics, they're mutants and Avengers, which has led to a pretty sticky situation. Fox, who has the X-Men rights, plans to use Quicksilver for the upcoming 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' Marvel and writer/director Joss Whedon plan to use him for 'Avengers 2.' This conflict remained hidden when Whedon went on Late Night to chat about the characters with Jimmy Fallon.

AMC's successful experiment in launching Chris Hardwick's 'Talking Dead' talk show after episodes of 'The Walking Dead' not only spawned the development of a 'Talking Bad' series for 'Breaking Bad,' but may have also inspired 'Sons of Anarchy' creator Kurt Sutter to develop his own companion talk show for the FX series as well. Kids have incredible imaginations if you just let them run with it. This particular video had me laughing so hard I was crying and then my asthma kicked in and I started coughing and wheezing. But after the week of storm tragedies we've had I think a good belly laugh is in order for the Friday.

But one action-packed remake of an old spy TV show's loss is another's gain. Cruise will instead focus his attention on 'Mission: Impossible 5' which is now gearing up to begin production later this year.

'Fast Five' attempted - and quite successfully I might add - a reboot of sorts for the entire 'Fast and Furious' franchise, turning a series of movies about car racing into one exciting heist film. It was big and brash and sweaty and a complete success. So where do you go from there? 'Fast and Furious 6' attempts to answer that question by adding an -er suffix to all those adjectives above. Bigger, brasher, sweatier.
'Fast and Furious 6' is like 'Fast Five' on nitrous - director Justin Lin hits that proverbial turbo boost to go bigger, faster, stronger - and at times, that is a great thing. But when the NOS runs out, the drag race just turns into a drag.
