The Silver Spur Gun and Blade Show is February 22nd and 23rd at the Expo Center in Abilene

The shortage of ammunition and certain firearms has eased up some what, nonetheless I think the shortages and some of the pricing is crazy. Anyone that knows me knows what a shooting and hunting enthusiast I am. So I am excited because this coming weekend the Silver Spur Gun and Blade Show will be at the Taylor Country Expo Center's Display Building, and I will try to be the first in line.

The Harlem Globetrotters 2014 “Fans Rule” World Tour Comes to Abilene February 19th

The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to Abilene, and they're bringing their fun filled 2014 “Fans Rule” World Tour to the ACU Moody Coliseum on Wednesday, Feb. 19th. Their hilarious style of basketball will keep you on the edge of your seat laughing. 2nd Annual American Cancer Society Bark for Life Relay is March 1st in Abilene

The 2nd annual Bark for Life Relay from the American Cancer Society (ACS) is scheduled for March 1st at Nelson Park in Abilene. Unlike the 12-hour 'Relay for Life,' the Bark for Life will only go from 9am until 1pm. This fundraiser promises to be a fun and festive event complete with a survivor lap, demonstrations, contests, and games. Bark for Life is a noncompetitive walking event for dogs and their owners. This is a fundraiser and awareness event for the American Cancer Society.

The 37th Annual Cactus Lions Club Spaghetti Supper is February 8th at Abilene High School

The 37th annual Cactus Lions Club and John Massey Memorial Spaghetti Supper will take place at the Abilene High School cafeteria. Cactus Lions Club members often brag about their secret spaghetti sauce recipe, Pete Beretta said "the real secret is in how I infuse the garlic butter onto the bread, being that I'm in charge of and the CEO of the BB&B or the bread buttering and browning".

10th Annual Autism Extravaganza Comes to Abilene Christian University February 19th

Calling all parents, family members and teachers, the Abilene Region 14 Education Service Center and the Autism Speaks foundation are hosting the "10th Annual Autism Extravaganza" kick-off luncheon at the ACU Hunter Welcome Center. The featured speaker is Lynn Stansberry Brusnahan, PhD. Dr. Brusnahan will share her unique experiences, as she and her young adult son with autism present this interactive session on Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The Benefit Fundraiser for 16 Month Old Addison Grace is Jan. 31st – Feb. 2nd in Abilene

 

Addison Grace is a 16 month old little girl that has been fighting to stay alive. She was born with a very rare heart defect and at 3 months old, Addison underwent open heart surgery. One month later she was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called "Fibrosarcoma" and she's still fighting for her life. A benefit fundraiser, auction and raffle has been set up to help Addison's mom and dad offset some of her medical expenses.

The West Texas Bridal and Quinceanera Showcase Returns to Abilene February 9th

The 5th Annual West Texas Bridal and Quinceanera Showcase is February 9th at the Abilene Civic Center. Over 100 exhibitors, vendors and services will be on hand for this years showcase. The showcase promises to be bigger and better than ever, and comes complete with my favorite event, the infamous "Cake Dive" put on by Creative Cakes. This is where a dozen brides-to-be destroy a beautiful multi-tiered wedding cake in search of a wedding ring. Whoever finds said ring will win the grand prize. Check out the the video for the icing tasting bandit (and it was good too).

“The Zombie Games” to Benefit the Buffalo Gap Historic Village are Scheduled for April 26th

When I first heard of the 'Buffalo Gap 5k Zombie Run' I thought to myself "I don't like zombies and I don't think anyone wants zombies chasing them while they're exercising". I was so wrong, apparently zombies are very popular and runners love to run from them. Now the Buffalo Gap Historic Village is hosting "The Zombie Games" where they've combined The Walking Dead, Survivor and the Hunger Games.

The 2014 West Texas Rehab Center’s Telethon Raised Over 1.28 Million Dollars

The West Texas Rehab Center's telethon and auction raised $1,280,765, out doing last year’s total of $1,202,646. The 2012 show raised an all time high of $1.33 million dollars. Director of Donor Relations Dan Huggins said "this year's total is the second highest  in the Rehab Center's telethon history". Huggins went on to say “We continue to be amazed and very grateful for the tremendous donor support the Center receives every year".
