Medical City’s air ambulance plane begins flying this week, with a stop in Abilene Wednesday at Abilene Aero, 2850 Airport Boulevard. The public is invited to come out from 1 – 6 p.m. Flight nurses will show the air ambulance to children, and give them toy glider planes. Admission is free.

The Dallas Cowboys Jason Witten, Cincinnati Bengals receiver Jordan Shipley and the Indianapolis Colts long snapper Justin Snow are the newest co-owners of the new D1 Sports Training Center in Abilene. The Abilene D1 Training facility will be co-owned by a group of investors and sports enthusiasts led by Dr. Dan Munton of Texas Sport & Spine right here in Abilene. The D1 Sports Complex is due to open on June 4th, 2012.

Founder Danny Thomas saw his life long dream of starting a hospital for children, become a reality fifty years ago. Who would have ever thought, when the first cancer patient walked through the doors of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, that an entertainer and his Doctor friends would find a way to cure certain types of cancer. The year was 1962 and the disease was acute lymphoblastic leukemia and the cure percentage-rate was less than 4%. Fast forward 50 years, it’s the same disease only the cure rate is right at 96%. It’s time we all pitched into cure all other types of cancers.
