July 4th holiday will be here a week from today! So you want to do something fun and have friends over for a picnic/bbq and you're at a loss as to what you should serve; other than hot dogs and hamburgers. Well
Well here we are again, almost July and that means celebrations of all kinds to honor our nations independence. Some of us celebrate with family and friends, just small gatherings and others go all out with huge parties that include the entire neighborhood. Then, of course, there are the public events with family friendly environments and fireworks to top it all off. I did some research and found the following events here in the the Big Country for everyone to attend.
As July 4th nears, many of us will be flying Old Glory high and proud, with that comes the responsibility and respect for our flag. There are laws that govern how and when the Stars and Stripes can be flown. I have noticed that a lot of Abilene businesses fly the American flag all year-round, not just on holidays. Some of our local businesses are in violation of flag laws and lack flag etiquette.
The Fireworks display was back in Abilene once again after a one year absence from the Fourth of July festivities – and, holy moly, did they ever come back.
I love homemade salsa. I’ve experimented with several recipes and have a good handful of favorites. But when I just want a simple, quick, and delicious salsa, this recipe never lets me down. You can put it together and have it on the table in 10 minutes.
July 4, 2011 It's the 4thof July and it's time for hot dogs, water melon and homemade ice cream, right? While I'm at it, I still don't understand the basis of a "food eating contest", in the past I've been asked to participate and very early on, I did participated in a few eating contests.
Forget about the dawn's early light, this Fourth of July is all about the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air and maybe even a couple of spiders. Those are the ones that, well, look kind of like a spider, anyway.

For a professional singer, there are few gaffes more embarrassing than flubbing a line from 'The Star Spangled Banner.' (Are you listening, Christina Aguilera?) But when these pint-sized patriots get caught up on the lyrics, well, it's just flat-out adorable. The more mess-ups, the merrier.

American popular music has been around since before America even declared its independence. ‘Yankee Doodle,’ anyone? That classic was sung by Colonial American soldiers as early as The French and Indian War.
Since then, our country has established one of the richest musical traditions in the world. Many songs even deal with America itself, from ‘God Bless America’ to ‘God Bless the USA.’
