Every dog, cat kitten and puppy within 19 counties will be here in Abilene for this major adoption event April 11th - 13th. Kiwanis of Abilene to Host the 65th Annual Pancake Day April 26th

The Kiwanis Club of Abilene is hosting their "65th Annual All You Can Eat Pancake Day and Auction" Saturday April 26th, 2014. This years event at the Abilene Civic Center is sponsored by I-Hop. I-Hop provides all the pancake batter for this event, plus some key 'I-Hop personnel' to mix up the secret recipe batter for the pancakes. Hendrick Hospice Care just announced their plans to build a brand new 41,000 square foot facility. Currently, Hendrick's outpatient hospice is in one location, while their inpatient facility is inside Hendricks Medical Center and the administrative offices are in another location. This new $10.4 million Hospice Care Center will put all the hospice services in one location.

The Central Texas Gem and Mineral Society (CTGMS) presents their annual Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show, April 12th and 13th, at the Abilene Civic Center. This years exhibits include raw gems and precious stones as well as finished jewelry. The show also features prehistoric fossils, rare minerals, beads and jewelry making equipment. There will be door prizes, live and silent auction items and a grand prize drawing. All proceeds benefit the CTGMS scholarship program.

The 56th annual "Worlds Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up" is March 7th, 8th and 9th at the Nolan Country Coliseum in Sweetwater. In 1958 the Sweetwater Jaycees started this event as a way to control snake populations in West Texas. The over population of rattlesnakes was causing harm to livestock in the Big Country.
