‘To the Wonder’ Review

It should be impossible for a movie to be both enthralling and boring, but somehow 'To the Wonder' pulls it off. It contains sights -- of picturesque Oklahoma sunsets and impossibly serene European beaches -- so beautiful they awaken you to the glory of the world around us. And it also contains passages -- of Ben Affleck and Olga Kurylenko running and twirling through fields, and then rolling around in bed, and then fighting and screaming, and then running and twirling in that field again -- so repetitive and tiresome that they nearly lull you to sleep.

Hunter Hayes New Song is ‘I Want Crazy’

Hunter Hayes newest song 'I Want Crazy' is the first song from his yet to be released album. While I was watching Hunter on the Academy of Country Music awards Sunday night, I began wondering "where is Hunter Hayes headed in his young career?" By the sounds on this lead single, Hayes clearly wants to show some maturity and restraint. By not letting his vocals wander in falsetto land, (like he's done in his last three singles.) There are a lot of lyrics that Hunter fits into 3 minutes and 57 seconds. It's a toe tapping, uptempo, begging for a good time song. Check it out.

Hunter Hayes, ‘I Want Crazy’ – Song Review

In his new song 'I Want Crazy.' Hunter Hayes doesn't soar like Ronnie Dunn or croon like Chris Young. His vocal performance is an exercise in diction -- and memory. Simply put, he packs a ton of words into a tight space without straining or slurring one idea into another. It's not easy.

Carrie Underwood, ‘See You Again’ – Song Review

Carrie Underwood changed directions with the release of 'See You Again' as the fourth single from 'Blown Away.' The ballad is anything but dark and stormy. Instead it's an inspirational reminder that will be especially meaningful to fans who have lost someone close recently.

‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Reviewed By Nathan, My 13-Year Old Son

My 13-year old son, Nathan, has become quite a fan of movies lately. And as is the case with most teenagers, he has an opinion about pretty much everything. So I figured we could combine his appreciation for cinema and hearing himself speak, and have him review the movies he goes to see.

Maggie Rose, ‘Better’ – Song Review

'Better' is the finest ballad from Maggie Rose's new 'Cut to Impress' album. The singer is creative with her phrasing, and the performance is as raw as anything on the 10-song collection. She is still learning how to be a great storyteller, however, and with more experiences and a few years behind her, the single promises to only get... better.

Will Hoge (Feat. Wade Bowen), ‘Another Song Nobody Will Hear’ – Song Review

Will Hoge may be playing to the band with his new single 'Another Song Nobody Will Hear,' but that takes nothing away from his impactful message. The singer-songwriter's ode to struggling musicians is a sharply-written statement about mainstream country music, sung with unique blue-collar spit and gravel.

Jon Pardi, ‘Up All Night’ – Song Review

Jon Pardi tosses a pinch of Bakersfield sound into his brand of country music. It came through more clearly on his debut single 'Missin' You Crazy,' but the follow-up, 'Up All Night,' still relies on a heavy guitar lick and Pardi's Dwight Yoakam-influenced singing style.

Album Spotlight: The Band Perry, ‘Pioneer’ – ToC Critic’s Pick

The Band Perry's new album 'Pioneer' is just as dramatic, yet dramatically more steady than their debut effort. The bar was raised and reached vocally, and songs like 'Done,' 'Forever Mine Nevermind' and 'Chainsaw' prove the family trio has lost nothing in terms of lyrical edge.

‘Evil Dead’ Review

"Let's hope this still works," says David (Shiloh Fernandez) as he puts a key into the door of his family's old cabin in the woods. But of course he's not just talking about the key; he's talking about the idea of remaking 'The Evil Dead,' the 1981 cult classic that launched the careers of writer/director Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert, and star Bruce Campbell and remains close to the hearts of discerning horror fans everywhere. Between the original film and its two sequels, 'Evil Dead II' and 'Army of Darkness,' Raimi, Tapert, and Campbell created one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time. But that was thirty years ago. Times change; tastes change. And in the interim, 'Evil Dead' has been ripped off by so many other movies its plot smells about as fresh as a fruit cellar full of rotting cat corpses. Forget hoping it still works; you'd need the mother of all prayers, and maybe a blood sacrifice or two, to make an 'Evil Dead' remake click.
