What’s Your Favorite Way to Save Money? [POLL]

I appreciate it when someone approaches me with a pointer that helps save me some cash. I love sharing a money-saving secret whenever I can, too. There’s something about a shared deal that can bring people closer together and form a team mentality. Maybe we can call it a “savings bond”.

My wife Brenda came across a new way to clear out our “yard sale” pile in the garage, and do a little shopping for herself, without leaving the house. Abilenee Swap Meet is the name, but I call it Brenda’s new addiction.

Big 5 Sporting Goods Store is Closing in Abilene and San Angelo

I couldn’t believe it either, my favorite sporting goods store in Abilene is closing it’s doors for good on May 14th, 2012. Store manager Ralph Zamarippa says “we’ve known for some time that Abilene was one of the stores that’s been on the list of stores closing in the Big 5 chain, but we couldn’t say anything”. The San Angelo store will be closing as well according to a visiting manager from the Lubbock store Roy Rocha.

After Christmas Refunds Increases Again

Ah, the warm heart-felt feelings that Christmas brings upon us, you know, the “comfort and joy” cozy feelings of giving a wonderful gift to that special someone. It is said that, “it is better to give than to receive”, unless we’re in tough economic times, it’s better to return that gift you bought and let them go without. The tougher the times the higher the return rate, and this years return rate is higher than last years. Retailers will refund over $53 billion to consumers this year. Stores will refund 9.9 cents for every dollar taken in this year, that is up from 9.8 cents last year.

Extreme Couponing Is Serious Business [VIDEO]

I had only heard about it, and I think I’ve got a daughter that participates in this insane retail ritual called “Extreme Couponing,” but I recently found myself stranded behind two ladies who took nearly 30 minutes just to check out at the local Wal-Mart Super Center. I tried to move to the only other checkout that was open at 2 in the morning, but there was another extreme couponer (her friend) in that lane as well. What I saw was eye opening and unbelievable, nearly $400.00 in groceries and the young lady only paid $77 after her coupons.

Fights At Black Friday Sales [VIDEO]

Black Friday is a day where everything we gave thanks for and asked God to make us a better person at, all goes out the window. There is nothing worse than listening to women call each other names curse, claw, scratch and fight over a few items that are on sale for a few hours and for a limited few people. This was not limited to just women, it’s that women were the ones I witnessed doing all the a fore mentioned and more. It appears that this “black Friday deal shopping” has become a sort of full contact sport and has men and from what I mostly saw, women using fowl and threatening language. What has happened to us? Why have we allowed a few stores to lure us into this type of “Jerry Springer mentality?”
