CBS Doubles Down on ‘Vegas,’ Deduces More ‘Elementary’

Vegas Elementary Full Seasons

In a month that’s seen a number of surprising additional orders and even a few cancellations, CBS has decided its likes the odds on both ‘Vegas‘ and ‘Elementary.’ Both the Dennis Quaid-fronted period drama and the Sherlock Holmes adaptation will see additional orders bringing them up to full seasons, but are the orders justified? And what does the eye have to say about renewing its freshman dramas, while cancelling others?

While plenty of haters still aren’t too keen on ‘Elementary’s modern take on classic literary figure Sherlock Holmes, the audience has spoken. CBS has in turn announced that the Jonny Lee Miller/Lucy Liu fronted series will receive a full first season order consisting of 22 episodes. The same goes for period crime drama ‘Vegas,’ which so far has been doing well in its late Tuesday time-slot.

”Vegas and Elementary have opened strong, delivering big audiences and winning performances in important time periods,” says CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler. “Each of the shows has rich characters, big stars and a unique visual style that have stood out in the crowd, helping make two of our strongest nights even stronger.”

She’s not wrong either, considering that ‘Vegas’ has continued winning CBS the Tuesday 10:00 p.m. time-slot, while ‘Elementary’ has been fairing very well on Thursdays as well. Fairing much more poorly was CBS’ other hour-long drama, the now-cancelled ‘Made in Jersey‘ on Fridays. A decision on ‘Partners’ has yet to be made.
