Celebrity Death Hoaxes – Our Top 5

Celebrity status not only gets you on all the talk shows and covers of magazines, but it also gets you ‘dead’.

Every few months the buzz of a celebrity death runs rampant causing many to post their condolences on Facebook and sending some to Google to verify the validity.

Some of these hoaxes last weeks, months, and years. Heck, Paul McCartney supposedly died back in 1966 but you know the truth about that one.

So, I decided to throw together a list of the most popular celebrity death hoaxes.

Morgan Freeman

Thanks to a Facebook page, Morgan Freeman is the most recent celebrity to have suffered from one of these hoaxes. On August 27th, 2012 the page reported that Freeman had died due to an artery rupture. What’s worse is that his fake death almost overshadowed the real death of Michael Clarke Duncan.

Charlie Sheen

Supposedly died in a snow boarding accident around Christmas 2010. You can’t die if you have Tiger’s Blood running through your veins.

Jon Bon Jovi

The ‘death’ that has received the most media attention is that of JBJ. He supposedly died while on tour in 2011. Honestly, I’ve never seen Facebook and Twitter go so crazy. However, shortly after the report of his death, he posted a picture on his Twitter page that was of him holding a sign with a date and message that read ‘Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey’.

Abilene musician Orlando Estrada even wrote a song about Bon Jovi’s fake death, check it out here.

Bill Cosby

The Jello Pudding King supposedly died back in the summer of 2010. However, shortly after he ‘died’, he was on Twitter confirming he was alive and hocking his iPhone app. He then ‘died’ in August (2012) thanks to a Facebook rumor, which probably stemmed from his first death.

Will Smith

It appears the ‘Fresh Prince’ is one of the most popular targets on death rumors as he has died multiple times (car accident) between 2007 and 2009. The only thing that seems to have died is his love for Jazzy Jeff. C’mon Will, we want to see Jazz in one of your movies. We’ll forgive you for Men in Black 3 if you do.

Other celebs caught up in internet death hoaxes are Justin Bieber, Aretha Franklin, Adam Sandler and Tom Hanks.
