Maddie & Tae’s ‘Girl in a Country Song’ doesn’t even hit iTunes for another week, but the controversial anti-bro-country song already has the genre talking.

‘Girl in a Country Song’ pokes fun at Jason AldeanBlake SheltonThomas Rhett … the list goes on. “We used to get a little respect / Now we’re lucky if we even get / To climb up in your truck keep our mouth shut and ride along / And be the girl in a country song” Maddie & Tae sing. The song furthers that bro-country hitmakers don’t respect the women in their songs, and that Conway Twitty and George Strait “never did it this way.”

‘Girl in a Country Song’ must have hit home for singer-songwriter Chase Rice, since he penned the huge hit by Florida Georgia Line, ‘Cruise,’ and his own song ‘Ready Set Roll.’ He took to his Twitter account to speak out about the song:

Rice’s little jab with calling the girls sexy in his response is not lost — but the singer seems to be taking the song as it was intended: to be in good fun. “@ChaseRiceMusic haha! all in good fun,” Maddie & Tae responded.

The duo just signed with Dot Records and are quickly becoming the hottest thing in country music. ‘Girl in a Country Song’ isn’t set to be in country radio rotation officially until July 21, many radio stations are already playing it and others are getting ready to. Hopefully all the other country bros they poke fun at think of it as Rice did!
