Chris Stapleton, Bonnie Raitt and Gary Clark Jr. joined together at the 2016 Grammy Awards for a tribute to late blues legend B.B. King, who passed away in mid-May in Las Vegas. Stapleton was an expected performer, as he earned four Grammy nods this year, but the fact that he was flanked by Raitt and Clark Jr. made it especially special.

Stapleton, Raitt and Clark Jr. would have made King proud with their slow and sleek rendition of "The Thrill Is Gone." Clark Jr. and Stapleton's guitar solos were beautifully reminiscent of King's style, while Raitt's vocals were unhurried and powerful. King's guitar, Lucille, was on display during the trio's performance, and though no one can ever take his place, the three stars did a darn good job.

Raitt and Clark Jr. are both previous recipients of Grammy Awards, and up to the time of their performance, Stapleton had won two trophies at the 2016 awards ceremony.
