‘A Christmas Story’ Considered Historically Significant, Will Be Preserved in the Library of Congress

A Christmas Story

It’s a major award! Looks like the Library of Congress is in a very Christmas-y mood, as Bob Clark’s classic ‘A Christmas Story’ is one of 25 new films selected for preservation into the National Film Registry. Oh fudge, indeed!

Jump after the break to find out the other 24 titles!

‘A Christmas Story’ will be joined by such notable films as ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, ‘Dirty Harry’, ‘A League of Their Own’ and ‘Slacker’ in the registry, which was created by 1989 by Congress to memorialize films that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”

And who knew a movie featuring Keanu Reeves would classify under those guidelines?

Yes, the most recent film of the bunch is the Wachowski siblings’ seminal 1999 sci-fi blockbuster ‘The Matrix’. The oldest is one you may never have heard of: ‘The Corbett-Fitzsimmons Title Fight’, which depicts the boxing match between “Gentleman Jim” Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons on St. Patrick’s Day in 1897.

These 25 films brings the number of inducted movies in the registry up to 600. Here’s the full list:

‘3:10 to Yuma’ (1957)

‘Anatomy of a Murder’ (1959)

‘The Augustas’ (1930s-1950s)
