Cloud Atlas

Can the Wachowskis redeem themselves for the muddled ‘Matrix’ sequels with their ambitious, star-studded new effort, ‘Cloud Atlas?’ All signs seem to point to … maybe. Critics are mostly split on ‘Cloud Atlas,’ the Wachowskis’ three hour-long genre-hopping collaboration with ‘Run Lola Run’ director Tom Tykwer. Many are praising the film’s massive scope, bravery and imagery while others say the picture starts with promise but is too unfocused and shallow deliver a real emotional impact. ScreenCrush’s Matt Singer liked it, but he suggests it’ll take more than one viewing to absorb all of the film’s finer points. Singer writes, “a second viewing sounds like an absolute pleasure rather than a chore.” All we know is, we never thought we’d be excited about a movie in which Halle Berry plays six roles. ‘Cloud Atlas’ opens Friday.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D

Promise at least three beheadings and one topless scene before the third act and we’re in. ‘Silent Hill: Revelation 3D’ opens Friday.
