Colorado Man Takes Thousands of Denver Residents to the Movies

Movie theater

After the horrific shooting at a Colorado premiere of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ on July 20th, some people were understandably skittish about going to the movies. But one man actually did something about it.

About a week after the tragedy, Jason Cole, a tech software executive from Louisville, CO, announced plans to pay for local residents’ movie tickets to get them back into the theaters — and to remove the power of fear.

“Some jerk tried to steal a night of fun from all of us,” he said. “We’re giving it back.”

He took donations and eventually had enough money to buy 1,300 tickets, which he and a group of volunteers handed out at five Denver area theaters on Saturday.

“It was a chance to join together with strangers to bless other strangers, to show love in the face of hate, and bravery in the face of violence,” he wrote on his blog, Take Back the Movies. “Hopefully, it inspired them to pass that love along to others when they left the theater, walking out of the darkness and into the light.”
