Darius Rucker Joins Charley Pride to Sing ‘Kiss an Angel Good Morning’ [Watch]
Charley Pride was the unannounced special guest for Darius Rucker's seventh-annual Darius Rucker & Friends Benefit Concert on Monday (June 6), and the legend left his mark on the night with an memorable performance of "Kiss an Angel Good Morning."
Rucker calls Pride an icon, while Pride says he's happy to call Rucker a friend. The 78-year-old Pride begins the song before calling Rucker out to join him. Withing a few seconds they're belting out the chorus, arm in arm, as the fans at Nashville's Wildhorse Saloon cheer and sing along. Fans know the song from Pride's 1971 album Charley Pride Sings Heart Songs. Along with Rucker DeFord Bailey he's one of three African American members of the Grand Ole Opry.
The total from the 2016 Darius Rucker & Friends concert should push the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital total to nearly $1 million. Traditionally there's been an auction and golf tournament — all events take place during CMA Music Festival week.
Terri Clark, Hunter Hayes, Scotty McCreery, LoCash and Drake White were among the other artists to take the stage at the Wildhorse with Rucker. Pride's performance was most memorable, however. The legend will stay busy during CMA week, with two shows planned at the Grand Ole Opry and a fan club breakfast set for June 9. Rucker will also play the Opry before continuing the Good for a Good Time Tour with Michael Ray and Dan + Shay later this month.
