During Summer 2018, Devin Dawson spent time on the road with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, opening the second half of the 2018 leg of their Soul2Soul Tour. The rising star's time on tour with the country power couple wasn't only beneficial in terms of winning over new fans, however -- he also got a song out of the trek.

On Saturday night (Nov. 10), during a tour stop in Buffalo, N.Y., Dawson shared a brand-new song called "I've Got a Truck." The tune was inspired, Dawson told the crowd, by McGraw's own story of starting his career in Nashville.

"He kinda started telling me his story about how he got started ... I was like, 'Tim, have you written that song yet?'" Dawson recounted. "He's like, 'Nah, I haven't written it.' I was like, 'That's your story; you've gotta write that.'"

McGraw told Dawson he might eventually get around to it -- but Dawson sat down after that night's show and wrote this new song. "It's one of my favorite new ones I've written," Dawson added.

Dawson's stop in Buffalo, N.Y., was part of his Stray Off Course Tour, a headlining trek he began in early November. After a holiday break, Dawson will hit the road again in early 2019.

"As an opener, you only have so many options ... and then when somebody says, 'Everything is possible. What do you want?' it's like, 'Oh, I never thought of that,'" Dawson says of the tour. "This is a little harder, but it's more exiting to me because we get to stretch out, and I can play every song on my album rather than have to choose ... and that also allows up to find new things out about ourselves and try new things."
