A while back, I posted up a video of this woman who made a homemade fly trap to get rid of pesky flies. Since we've had a major problem with flies at my house, I decided to try this contraption myself to see if it would work. Here are my results.

Using a pickle jar, I drilled holes in the lid, put some meat and maple syrup in the bottom, and let it sit for a few days just like the lady in the video did.

As you can see in the video above, it didn't work out well at all After about 12 hours, I had only trapped 1 fly, so, I decided to take the lid off. After 4 days, I still had only caught about 10-15 flies.

So, the fly trap didn't work as planned. Sure, it caught a few flies, but, if anything, the contraption actually attracted more flies. Maybe I shouldn't have used generic syrup? Maybe the meat I used was not gluten free?

Whatever the case, I give this homemade fly trap two thumbs down. And, my quest to find something to control this fly problem continues. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, I'm just going to buy one of these 'Bug-A-Salt' guns to get rid of these little critters.
