Get ready for the sights and sounds of skydiving, jet engines, mock aerial dog fights and awesome aerobatics, all performed over the skies of Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene. This year, the Big Country Air fest is scheduled for Saturday April 28th with the Tye gate opening to the public at 8am.

As usual the list of things, not allowed on base include food, drinks, pets, weapons (and this includes your little pocket knife), no smoking or smoking paraphernalia (lighters, pipes, cigar cutters), backpack and coolers just to name a few. check out the Dyess air show website for a complete list.

New to be highlighted this year include 70 years of Abilene air-power showcasing the different aircraft’s that have made Abilene home since 1942. Aerial demonstrations include a B-1, B-2, C-130, Army Golden Knights, Air Force Academy Wings of Blue, and a heritage flight with an A-10 and P-47 to name a few. The highlight of the airshow will be the Pearl Harbor attack re-enactment team, Tora! Tora! Tora! Some other war-birds to be highlighted will be a P-40 Warhawk, a B-25 Mitchell, B-17 and Mig-17.

A bit of advice, get there early as getting in may take some time due to heightened security as the extra inspection may slow the entrance process.
