Additional Information

Veteran's have a special place in all our hearts and they should all be honored as heroes. This December 15th a wreath laying ceremony will be taking place not only here in Abilene but at over 500 veteran cemeteries simultaneously nationwide.

Wreaths Across America will take place at 11 am on Saturday, December 15th. It is to honor and remember our fallen soldiers. Locally this event will take place at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.

This event began in 1992 at Arlington National Cemetery. The non-profit veterans groups took that and now coordinate the event nationwide. Service members will be at the cemetery representing the Army, Marine Corp, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW/MIA's. They will be laying a wreath at the wall to represent each branch.

My boyfriends dad was buried there this past March. It is a beautiful cemetery and you stand a little taller when you visit. You are there with heroes who risked their lives for our freedoms. If you can visit on December 15th, I encourage you to do so, even if you don't have a connection with anyone buried there; you won't be disappointed with what you find. Oh, and take a Kleenex, you will need it.
