SUMMARY:Hayes Carll at the Lucky Mule Saloon
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_115807" align="alignleft" width="630"] Getty Images\, Michael Buckner[/caption] Hayes Carll has carved his niche in the music industry. He is a clever\, quirky\, country/Americana singer and songwriter who has the ability to connect with music lovers across genres lines. Along with Austin-based singer/songwriter Jason Eady\, Hayes Carll is coming to the Lucky Mule Saloon on Friday\, October 19th. Information Tickets Cost: Adults 21 and older $12.00; 18-20 are $12.00\, with a $3.00 minor charge at the door. On Sale: The Lucky Mule\, Cavender’s\, Abby’s Bottle & Brew\, Complete Nutrition or Farm & Ranch Western Wear Purchase Online: LuckyMuleAbilene.com Date and Time Friday\, October 19th. Doors open at 7:00pm Venue The Lucky Mule Saloon 1850 South Clack Street Abilene\, TX 79605 Contact Info Website: www.LuckyMuleAbilene.com Phone: (325) 232-8564 Facebook: Facebook.com/LuckyMuleSaloon Jason Eady Jason Eady’s extensive background in “grown up issues” is what explains why the word “poet” is so frequently associated with his name. A six-year stint in the US Air Force as a translator placed him in a slew of foreign cultures giving him a universal look into the nature of human beings and a good jumping off point for his comprehensive lyrical translations. The Mississippi native and Texas transplant has spent the last seven years in an incubation period undergoing a musical metamorphosis that has led him through lonesome delta blues\, inspirational church house harmonies\, poetically spun tales of Americana and into the naked and honest regions of good ole’ country music. Check out Jason Eady's 'Wishful Drinking' video: Hayes Carll Wildly literate\, utterly slackerly\, impossibly romantic\, absolutely a slave to the music\, The Woodlands\, Texas native Hayes Carll is completely committed to the truth and unafraid to skewer pomposity\, hypocrisy and small-minded thinking. In a world of shallow and shallower\, where it’s all groove and gloss\, that might seem a hopeless proposition. Last year\, “Another Like You\,” Carll’s stereotype’s attract duet of polar opposites\, was American Songwriter’s #1 Song of 2011 – and his breakout CD\, 'KMAG YOYO' was the Americana Music Association’s #1 Album\, as well as making Best of Lists for Rolling Stone\, SPIN and a New York Times Critics Choice. But more importantly than the critical acclaim is the way Carll connects with music lovers across genres lines. Playing rock clubs and honkytonks\, Bonnaroo\, Stones Fest\, SXSW and NXNE\, he and his band the Gulf Coast Orchestra merge a truculent singer/songwriter take that combines Ray Wylie Hubband’s lean freewheeling squalor with Todd Snider’s brazen Gen Y reality and a healthy dose of love amongst unhealthy people. “I guess you could say I write degenerate love songs\,” Carll says. “That\, and songs about people who’re wedged between not much and even less; people who see how hopeless it is and somehow make it work anyway. “And the best kind of irony\, sometimes\, is applying no irony and letting reality do the work.” Whatever you call his music\, Hayes Carll has stumbled on a rare level of respect from critics\, award-givers and fans alike. He's played on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno\, was the inspiration for the character Beau Hutton from the movie 'Country Strong' starring Gwyneth Paltrow\, and hasn't spent a second compromising his creative license along the way. Here's Hayes Carll performing the title track from his 2011 CD 'KMAG YOYO':

SUMMARY:Casey Donahew Band at the Lucky Mule Saloon
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_117562" align="alignleft" width="630"] Facebook\, Casey Donahew Band[/caption] Casey Donahew is fast becoming an upper-tier talent on the Texas music scene\, and with good reason. His albums are all good (His latest\, 'Double-Wide Dream'\, cracked the top 10 on the US country charts)\, with songs that you can sing along to. His live show is solid and entertaining. And along with Gary Kyle\, the Casey Donahew Band will be making a return visit to Abilene and the Lucky Mule Saloon on Thursday\, November 29th. Information Tickets Cost: Adults 21 and older $15.00; 18-20 are $15.00\, with a $3.00 minor charge at the door. On Sale: The Lucky Mule\, Cavender’s\, Abby’s Bottle & Brew\, Complete Nutrition or Farm & Ranch Western Wear Purchase Online: LuckyMuleAbilene.com Date and Time Thursday\, November 29th. Doors open at 6:00pm Venue The Lucky Mule Saloon 1850 South Clack Street Abilene\, TX 79605 Contact Info Website: www.LuckyMuleAbilene.com Phone: (325) 232-8564 Facebook: Facebook.com/LuckyMuleSaloon Gary Kyle Gary Kyle was raised in Kingwood\, TX\, just outside of Houston. He grew up the youngest of six children in a very musically charged family. Gary’s father\, who passed when Gary had just turned a year old\, was a country/bluegrass performer. When Gary was a senior in high school\, his mother gave him his late father’s guitar. Making good on a promise to his mother that he would attend college and earn a degree\, Gary attended the University of North Texas in Denton. Music took precedence over academia\, but after six years of college (no\, he is not a doctor!) Gary earned his degree. Gary has a relentless passion for performing\, and his unorthodox connection with the audience\, leaves an indeniable mark on all who see him play. You can always find Gary after the show in the crowd thanking each person for coming out to hear his music. His sophomore album “Turn this Life Around” has been a great success for Gary. Both singles he released off this album (Late Night Runaround\, Turn this Life Around) charted in the top 25 on the Texas Charts. Here's Gary Kyle's video for his song 'Livin'': Casey Donahew Though he seems like a born natural when it comes to performing\, Casey actually fell into music gradually. He grew up on a farm the first few years of his life and quickly grew to love riding and team roping\, a sport he still enjoys today. His grandfather\, who loved to play and sing\, gave Casey his first guitar growing up\, but it wasn’t until college at Texas A&M that he first began to teach himself to play and really focused on writing songs. A big fan of 80’s and 90’s country\, Casey had always admired the storytelling in the songs of that period\, and when a wild-eyed Oklahoma boy named Garth Brooks began swinging from the rafters and employing all sorts of crazy\, rock show antics during his concerts\, Casey was immediately hooked. It was during his college days that Casey also discovered another rowdy artist who was forging his own path across the Lonestar state in a big way\, Pat Green. When his fraternity hired Pat to play one of their parties back in those early days\, Casey was instantly inspired by Pat’s way with a song and his ability to connect with an audience. “Pat Green was really the guy who started it all for me in college. He just did a great job connecting with fans\, and later on when we started playing\, we really tried to mirror how he did that.” His latest studio CD\, “Double Wide Dream\,” is pretty much right in the wheelhouse of Casey’s previous three. The songs contemplate all the highs and lows of real life\, from the heartaches to the belly laughs and everything in between\, and the CD is packed full of that unbridled\, can-do indie spirit that has rocket-powered his entire career right from the start. From the straight-shooting\, hilarity of the leadoff single\, “Double Wide Dream\,” a redneck’s declaration of love for his hot mess of a wife\, to the heartfelt twist of “Give You A Ring\,” and the hotter-than-a-jalapeno\, Texas-tinged smoker\, “One Star Flag\,” the tunes on this new CD cover a broad range of material and emotions and showcase a maturity that can only be achieved through lots of living\, loving\, and losing -- things Casey has no doubt done his fair share of throughout his life and his budding career. And though he can work his way through a tearjerker with the best of ‘em\, for Casey\, every song doesn’t have to be brain surgery -- it’s okay to laugh and have a good time and let your hair down\, as in the case of the hilarious title track\, or “White Trash Story II - The Deuce\,” a continuation of the tune that has become a fan sensation and instant singalong during his shows. Here's the Casey Donahew Band's latest video\, for 'One Star Flag':

The College Station-based singer/songwriter takes his music seriously\, yet has a fun side and a different sense of humor that you don't normally find in a musician. Just ask his alter-ego\, Earl Dibbles\, Jr. (yes\, his alter-ego has his own website). Granger also puts on a great live show\, and he will be playing at Southern Nights Dancehall on Saturday night\, November 3rd. Information Tickets Cost: Adults 21 and older $10.00 in advance\, $15.00 at the door. Date and Time Saturday\, November 3rd. By consistently providing blended hits that are well outside the realm of “typical\,” Granger’s music provides a refreshing and unique variation on the growing independent country music scene. Over a decade into his career\, the former Texas A&M alumn has already checked several items off his bucket list. Played by invitation at the White House? Check. Paid his respects to American soldiers? Absolutely\, both through multiple tours in Iraq and Kuwait and through his annual 100-mile soldier walk. This year\, he was asked to partner with The Boot Campaign to further raise awareness of our troops’ needs as they return home from combat. Granger has seven top-10 Texas Music Chart hits to his credit\, including 'Colorblind'\, 'Don't Listen to the Radio'\, 'I Almost Am' and 'Sleeping on the Interstate'. His game plan has been good to him so far. Granger has had 8 Top 10 singles on the Texas Music Charts and he's even successfully launched a crowd-pleasing alter-ego\, "country boy" Earl Dibbles Jr. The idea was born when Granger and his brother were having some fun with a camera on their childhood ranch. "Earl represents at least half of my family\, so it was easy to jump in my old truck\, grab my shotgun and slip right into character\," Granger admits. They could never have imagined the viral success Dibbles has become\, with his own single 'The Country Boy Song'\, music video and legions of fans. As a master of multiple instruments\, Slaughter landed a job with Roger Creager's band on the road and as a studio musician for Creager and others. Also a solid songwriter\, John has co-written two #1 Texas Music Chart hits\, including Creager's 'I Love Being Lonesome' and Cody Johnson's 'Pray For Rain'. With his CD\, 'Stay For A While' now available\, look for John Slaughter to make a name for himself on the Texas music scene in the near future. Kyle Bennett Click here to check out Kyle Bennett performing 'Here In This Town' on KTAB 4u. In 2003\, in a warehouse on the outskirts of Ft. Worth\, TX\, the Kyle Bennett Band was born. People gathered every night to hear the original music and smooth voice of Kyle Bennett. Having been surrounded by music his entire life (both parents were music directors and had released Christian gospel albums)\, it’s no surprise that Kyle Bennett followed suit from an early age. By April of 2005\, they cut their first album now known as “The Red Album”. With some southern style country combined with some great classic rock the Kyle Bennett Band broke into the Red Dirt Music scene and onto the Texas Regional Radio Charts. “Donnelly Drive” was the first track to make it into the Top 10 on the Texas Regional Radio Charts. Several of the songs are still quite popular\, like “Adios”\, “Later On” and “What’s it Like”. In April of 2009\, they released their second album “Grey Sunrise”. This album really held the sound of a more matured band and once again\, added momentum to their growing fan base. “Grey Sunrise” released two songs that made the Top 10 on the Texas Regional Radio Charts. Those titles included “Jimmy & Josie” and “Should’ve Listened”. Other songs on the album reflect the talent of Bennett’s writing style and soulful\, southern voice like “When the Lights Go Down” and “Time To Switch To Whiskey”. About a year after the release of their sophomore album\, the band made the hard decision to split ways. Kyle decided to go forth with his singer/songwriter career. He gathered new musicians from all over Texas. Their talents and hard work have added a lot to the current Kyle Bennett Band sound. The complete line-up change has evoked a new wave of music and creativity. The unmistakably clear voice and smooth inflection that are core to Kyle Bennett’s sound were evident on his new single “Here In This Town” that reached #8 on the Texas Music Charts\, #4 on the Tex Net 50\, and #10 on the Texas Regional Radio Report. Singles “Track Won” and “Pills” were also created during this time and are making headway in the Texas region. The release of “Here in This Town” delivered a new style packed with ambition and emotion that made listeners take notice. The signature vocals and guitar remain core to their sound along with a more refined and solidified delivery ranging from the rockin’ energy of live shows to polished ballads. The band definitely hybrids Country and Rock but not in the traditional Southern Rock way; It can be edgy but not screeching and there is a sound to Bennett’s voice and a style to the band that sets them apart from the rest. On the surface it seems easy to stereotype their sound as Texas Country\, but it goes deeper than that. It’s a mixture of life lessons and a determined professionalism. Take a few hard knocks\, a couple of relationships gone wrong\, mix in some good times and you have the heart and soul that delivers the sound of the Kyle Bennett Band. Kyle is looking to move forward with his career and step outside of the Texas region. He is ready to show the world what he can do. The band will be hitting the studio to record a new album soon\, so be ready for some more great music to come! A unique look behind the scenes and into the lives of today's Troubadours. Men and women who are living the dream…others who are chasing it. Some perform to sold out crowds. Some are just hoping to catch a break. Some of these artists have written hundreds of songs. Others just a few. Most of the artists who are living the dream have enjoyed numerous number one hits and when they perform the audience sings along. Some artists dream of having a hit song; of experiencing that moment when the crowd knows their music and when it happens…it’s big. Making it in the music business is about more than talent…it usually takes a team – managers\, musicians\, money and a whole lot of determination to never look back. This is where the music\, the passion and the journey begin. Zane Williams Zane Williams is a native of Abilene\, Texas. He is now a Texas Country singer/songwriter in McKinney\, Texas. Zane’s 2003 collection of music prompted a string of national awards for the relatively unknown artist. Zane was a finalist in an unprecedented three categories at MerleFest’s Chris Austin Song Contest\, claiming top slots in both the Country and General categories. “Hurry Home” was also selected as the $20\,000 Maxell Song of the Year in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Williams released the album Hurry Home in 2006. He signed a publishing deal with Big Yellow Dog Music in 2007. The album’s title track was released as a single by Jason Michael Carroll in 2009. Williams has toured extensively throughout the United States\, including Missouri\, Alabama\, and Texas. In January 2010\, Williams released an album titled The Right Place\, which he co-produced with Radney Foster. Jessica Phillips of Country Weekly magazine gave the album three-and-a-half stars out of five\, saying\, “If you’re in the mood for true honky-tonk music\, you’re in the right place.” Here's a clip of Zane Williams in studio\, recording his new single\, 'Sure Felt Like Goodbye': Josh Grider Josh Grider knows two things\, he loves writing songs\, and he loves playing them for people. Across the great southwest\, Texas and beyond\, Josh has been delivering the goods non-stop since the release of his first album in 2005. Seven years\, four full-length albums\, and two EPs later\, Josh is still going strong with no signs of slowing down. While touring in support of his Live At Billy Bob’s Texas album\, Josh found himself on a radio show with Wade Bowen. After the show\, Wade offered to introduce Josh to his management team. That introduction led to Josh meeting and eventually signing with AMP Entertainment\, a new publishing/artist management venture launched by industry veteran\, Tim Dubois (hit songwriter\, founder Arista Nashville\, responsible for signing Brooks and Dunn\, Alan Jackson\, Lee Roy Parnell\, Brad Paisley\, Diamond Rio). Becoming a member of the AMP Entertainment family has begun a whole new\, and very exciting chapter in Josh’s music career. Currently\, Josh splits his time between Tennessee and Texas writing songs and/or touring. He has recently finished work on some recordings that are slated for a late 2012 release and will coincide with Josh’s appearance on the docu-reality television series Troubadour TX. The project was co-produced by Dubois and fellow AMP artist/writer Trent Willmon. Josh will tell you he’d rather be busy than bored\, and from the looks of things there will be very few dull moments in the coming months for Mr. Grider. The road he walks is not for the faint of heart\, or the faithless. As well as a musician\, Josh is a father\, a husband\, a brother\, and a son. All these roles help keep him grounded and inspired as he travels the highways and byways\, chronicling his experiences in the songs he writes\, and playing them for any and all who care to hear. Here is Josh Grider introducing himself to viewers of Troubadour\, TX: Matt Caldwell Raised on the outskirts of Dallas\, close enough to see the city lights reflected in the sky at night\, but seemingly a world away\, Matt Caldwell’s childhood was typical for someone in a small Texas town. Growing up in Nevada\, TX (pop. 854)\, Matt started singing in church at an early age\, but by high school\, as happens with many young men in small-town Texas\, sports became the focus of his after-school interests. He played baseball\, basketball and was the starting quarterback of the football team. But by his senior year\, music was creeping back into his life. Matt gave up sports to front a band called “Texas’ Most Wanted”. They played in the little dive bars in town and the surrounding areas and eventually made their way to the larger clubs and festivals. After a few years on the road\, Matt knew writing songs and playing music was what he wanted to do with his life\, it was his passion\, it was in his blood. Matt made a decision to move to Nashville\, but like so many of the multitudes who made the same move to chase a dream\, he soon found himself caught in the balancing act of trying to break into country music while at the same time making a living. “Sometimes it’s hard to find gigs and put on a good show when you’ve been out in the hot sun working construction all day\,” says Caldwell. Continuing to work on his craft of songwriting after a day’s work\, as well as becoming more and more natural onstage while continuing to make fans and friends by the dozens\, Matt also began taking his music back to his home state of Texas. His easiness in front of a crowd\, approachability and honest-to-goodness humble nature makes it hard to tell who is having more fun…the audience or Matt. He is currently on the road spending a lot of time playing throughout Texas showing fans his version of country music. Matt Caldwell is on the cusp of something big. Here's Matt Caldwell introducing himself on Troubadour\, TX: [button href="http://keanradio.com/abilene-native-zane-williams-sure-felt-like-goodbye-song-review-audio/" title="Zane Williams 'Sure Felt Like Goodbye' - Song Review" align="center"]

SUMMARY:Granger Smith and Earl Dibbles, Jr.
DESCRIPTION:Granger Smith is more than just an accomplished singer/songwriter. He's more than a great live performer. Smith is an all-around entertainer. Smith has gone so far as to create an alter-ego -- and overall-wearing\, dipping\, shotgun-toting hillbilly named Earl Dibbles\, Jr. -- to show off a different side of his music and add another dimension of entertainment to his live show. Abilene will get the best of both worlds\, as Granger will be performing\, and bringing Earl to the Lucky Mule Saloon on Friday night\, February 8th. Information Tickets Cost: 21 and over $10.00 in advance\, 18+ welcome with ID for an additional $3 Purchase Online: LuckyMuleAbilene.com Date and Time Friday\, February 8th. Doors open at 6:00pm Venue The Lucky Mule Saloon 1850 South Clack Street Abilene\, TX 79605 Contact Info Website: www.LuckyMuleAbilene.com Phone: (325) 232-8564 Facebook: Facebook.com/LuckyMuleSaloon More Information Granger Smith Granger Smith\, the Texas born-and-bred singer/songwriter\, has been busy reinventing the face of traditional country one chart-topping single at a time. By consistently providing blended hits that are well outside the realm of “typical\,” Granger’s music provides a refreshing and unique variation on the growing independent country music scene. Over a decade into his career\, the Texas A&M alum has already checked several items off his bucket list. Granger has seven top-10 Texas Music Chart hits to his credit\, including ‘Colorblind’\, ‘Don’t Listen to the Radio’\, ‘I Almost Am’ and ‘Sleeping on the Interstate’. His game plan has been good to him so far. Granger has had 8 Top 10 singles on the Texas Music Charts and he’s even successfully launched a crowd-pleasing alter-ego\, “country boy” Earl Dibbles Jr. The idea was born when Granger and his brother were having some fun with a camera on their childhood ranch. “Earl represents at least half of my family\, so it was easy to jump in my old truck\, grab my shotgun and slip right into character\,” Granger admits. They could never have imagined the viral success Dibbles has become\, with his own single ‘The Country Boy Song’\, music video and legions of fans. SUMMARY:Hayes Carll
DESCRIPTION:Hayes Carll has carved his niche in the music industry. He is a clever\, quirky\, sarcastic country/Americana singer and songwriter who has the ability to connect with music lovers across genres lines. Along with special guest Rob Baird\, Hayes Carll is coming to the Lucky Mule Saloon on Friday\, February 15th. Information Tickets Cost: 21 and over $12.00 in advance\, 18+ welcome with ID for an additional $3 Purchase Online: LuckyMuleAbilene.com Date and Time Friday\, February 15th. Doors open at 6:00pm Venue The Lucky Mule Saloon 1850 South Clack Street Abilene\, TX 79605 Contact Info Website: www.LuckyMuleAbilene.com Phone: (325) 232-8564 Facebook: Facebook.com/LuckyMuleSaloon More Information Rob Baird Rob Baird will be the first one to tell you that he hasn’t always been 100%\, shall we say\, forthright as a songwriter. Back in college he recorded an album that he has since “completely buried”. Primarily\, he says\, because\, “I just wasn’t writing about anything that really meant anything to me.” His next album\, 2010’s Blue Eyed Angels (which he considers his proper debut)\, was a fair deal closer to his heart\, but even then he was still an artist in search of himself. Songs like “Could Have Been My Baby\,” “Blue Eyed Angels” and especially “Fade Away” all demonstrated that he was ultra-confident in the hooks department and talented enough to sound like he knew what he was doing\, but Baird himself was still not entirely convinced. By contrast\, one listen to his new album\, 'I Swear It’s the Truth'\, and it’s clear that Baird has not only found his identity\, but grabbed his sense of purpose by the wheel and pushed pedal to the metal. Three years of touring successfully can have an effect on one’s confidence\, as does the benefit of just having a little more time to mature. Baird\, now 25\, wrote and recorded Blue Eyed Angels when he was only 21\, at the end of his senior year at TCU in Fort Worth. Baird stayed in Texas after graduation and began carving out his own niche. But even as Blue Eyed Angels found traction on regional radio on the strength of his steady touring and solid singles like “Could Have Been My Baby” and “Fade Away\,” Baird formulated his own style\, cut with guitars both jangly and crunchy and crisscrossed by rivers of pedal steel and tasteful organ\, that quickly set him apart from rest of the Texas crowd. Here's Rob Baird with a live performance of his song 'Can't Stop Running': Hayes Carll You'll be hard pressed to find a singer/songwriter who is able to convey sarcasm as well as Hayes Carll (just listen to his song 'Another Like You' for a prime example). Wildly literate\, utterly slackerly\, impossibly romantic\, absolutely a slave to the music\, this Texan is completely committed to the truth and unafraid to skewer pomposity\, hypocrisy and small-minded thinking.Yet his music is\, somehow\, even embraced by those small-minded thinkers he pokes at in his songs. In a world of shallow and shallower\, where it’s all groove and gloss\, that might seem a hopeless proposition. Last year\, “Another Like You\,” Carll’s stereotype’s attract duet of polar opposites\, was American Songwriter’s #1 Song of 2011 – and KMAG YOYO was the Americana Music Association’s #1 Album\, as well as making Best of Lists for Rolling Stone\, SPIN and a New York Times Critics Choice. “And the best kind of irony\, sometimes\, is applying no irony and letting reality do the work.” After releasing Flowers & Liquor in 2002\, Carll was voted the Best New Artist of 2002 by The Houston Post. He would go on to release Little Rock\, on his own Highway 87 label\, which became the first self-owned project to the top the Americana charts. It wasn’t long until Lost Highway\, home of Lucinda Williams\, Ryan Adams\, Van Morrison and the Drive-By Truckers came calling. Trouble in Mind yielded the tongue firmly in cheek “She Left Me For Jesus\,” a know-nothing redneck send-up/beer joint anthem somewhere between “You Never Even Called Me By My Name” and “Up Against the Wall.” “Jesus” was the 2008 Americana Music Awards Song of the Year. Fiercely individual\, Carll’s banged-up take on classic country is honed by the road – sometimes as a man and guitar\, sometimes with his scrappy band\, but always taking in the vistas and humanity before him. “It comes down to the songs and the people\,” he says. “You write about what you see\, the things that cross your mind… and then you wanna get out there and play it back to ‘em. You kinda know how you’re doing when you see how the people respond.” More than a decade into a recording career\, Hayes Carll shows no signs of having arrived at his creative apex. Each album expands on his already extreme vintage country\, extreme thumping bad road boogie\, extreme heartbroken ache – and finds new ways to take on the fate of the nation. Whether it’s the GI protagonist in the propulsive title track of KMAG YOYO\, the train wreck objet d’amour of “Drunken Poet’s Dream\,” also recorded by Hubbard\, the road warrior of both “I Got A Gig” and “Little Rock” or the stoner liberal and the uptight Republican vixen of “Another Like You\,” Carll paints vivid pictures of humanity as it really is. Thick-headed. Avaricious. Squalid. Hungry. Angry. Getting by. Like so many Texans before him\, there’s no agony in the ecstasy – just the wonder of capturing the perfect character in the song. When you’re 6 beers down on a 12 pack night\, you know Hayes Carll understands. At a time like that – whether in your own backyard or some jam-packed bar – that’s the best kind of friend to have. Check out this performance of 'Another Like You'\, featuring Bonnie Whitmore: [button href="http://keanradio.com/corb-lund-cabin-fever-cd-review-video/" title="Corb Lund's Latest CD\, 'Cabin Fever' is a Must-Have" align="center"]

SUMMARY:Cody Canada & The Departed
DESCRIPTION:Red Dirt music legend Cody Canada is now on tour in support of his 2nd album with The Departed\, 'Adventus'. No matter what band he leads\, the former Cross Canadian Ragweed front man has always put on an outstanding show\, and brought large crowds wherever he plays. Canada's new band\, however\, isn't just about him. In fact\, it's considered by some to be a 'supergroup'\, with a lineup of top-notch Red Dirt talent including Jeremy Plato\, Seth James\, Steve Littleton\, and Chris Doege. The Departed is coming Friday\, February 22nd to the Lucky Mule Saloon in Abilene. Information Tickets Cost: 21 and over $12.00 in advance\, 18+ welcome with ID for an additional $3 Purchase Online: LuckyMuleAbilene.com Date and Time Friday\, February 22nd. Doors open at 6:00pm Venue The Lucky Mule Saloon 1850 South Clack Street Abilene\, TX 79605 Contact Info Website: www.LuckyMuleAbilene.com Phone: (325) 232-8564 Facebook: Facebook.com/LuckyMuleSaloon More Information Cody Canada & The Departed The studio environment for a working musician is equal parts laboratory\, man cave\, and holy place. On a steamy day in Austin\, Texas at Yellow Dog Studios\, there was a reverent hush that made it feel like a sacred service was underway. Through the glass\, The Departed was playing live\, facing each other in a circle\, with Steve Littleton on Hammond B3 in a separate room\, and Seth James singing with a world weary voice in the booth. The guys came back into master control to listen to the track with co-producer Adam Odor. They all were looking down at their respective electronic devices while the music was on. Adam whispered that Cody Canada and The Departed were making a straight up rock record this time around\, tapping into the eternal emotions that have informed the great American musical styles from the start. That album is called Adventūs\, the Latin word for arrival. The Adventūs album is fourteen tracks deep. The band members\, Cody Canada\, Seth James\, Jeremy Plato\, Steve Littleton\, and new drummer Chris Doege\, have never had the luxury before of starting the recording process with so many songs. They have worked collaboratively\, bringing thoughts\, phrases\, verses and riffs together. This project\, in fact this band\, is a testament to the creative process. It is about playing what you want with whom you want\, carving out a road family fueled by mutual appreciation for each other’s talent as well as the camaraderie. Adam Odor put the process in perspective\, "The Departed had the last year and a half to lock in\, to find out who they are and what they are together. That’s the way they did it in the old days\, when a band would get signed to a label. These guys are all so good\, the musicianship and the songs\, and that is a rare thing when you have them both.” Cody explained further\, “For this album\, we were ready to roll. When we started practicing there was the feeling that we are honored to be doing this together. Doing other people’s songs for the first album\, 'This Is Indian Land'\, gave us time to let the new stuff percolate. There are some really intricate songs\, and so far\, we have only played a couple of them out in public.” Cody Canada was 16 years old when he arrived in Stillwater\, Oklahoma. He found musicians who planted seeds that would stay with him for the rest of his life. Cody recalls\, “I met Tom Skinner\, Scott Evans\, Bob Childers\, Jimmy LaFave\, Mike McClure\, the Red Dirt Rangers and they were all playing this really\, really good music. It was kind of in that same vibe as the Allman Brothers and The Band. But what came out of it was really diverse. There were more country acts like Jason Boland. The All American Rejects were the rock guys. Then you had the whole Red Dirt hippie thing…I didn’t even know what Red Dirt was until somebody told me. I got turned on to it all and it’s stayed with me ever since.” Canada was front man for Cross Canadian Ragweed for fifteen years\, where he tapped into those influences for their nine albums\, four of which charted on Billboard’s Top 10 Country Albums Chart. They sold over a million albums and played to sell-out crowds\, bringing the term “Red Dirt” to the nation. When Cross Canadian Ragweed decided to part ways\, Cody resurfaced with a mission in mind\, to pay homage to the Red Dirt writers and music that were formative. The Departed’s first priority was getting into the studio and cutting the Oklahoma tribute album that Cody had wanted to do for years. This is Indian Land came out last year\, a 15-track “buffet of really kick-ass Okie songs\,” Canada noted. And so a seamless transition was made\, Cody Canada and his long time Ragweed band mate\, Jeremy Plato on bass and vocals; along with Seth James on guitar and vocals (Seth James Band\, Ray Wylie Hubbard)\, Steve Littleton on B3 organ and keys (Live Oak Decline\, Stoney LaRue & the Arsenals\, Medicine Show) and Chris Doege on drums (Seth James Band\, Nashville touring acts). The band members have known each other for years\, and they know each other’s musicianship. They are excited to be playing together\, stoked about the new beginning that their first studio album of original material provides. Cody Canada & The Departed continues to hit the road hard. As excited as they are about their gigs\, they are taking it all very seriously. Canada continues\, “Now it’s a new band playing new songs so we’ve got to learn everything\, get our game together and practice. It’s a whole lot of fun. I can’t sleep at night. It keeps me awake\, not from worry but from excitement. We’re just ready to tear it up.” Here's a segment dedicated to The Departed on the Ray Benson-hosted TV show 'Texas Music Scene': [button href="http://keanradio.com/john-david-kent-self-titled-cd-review-video/" title="John David Kent CD Review" align="center"]

Nonetheless\, the NVA and VC launched an attack in the early morning hours of January 30th 1968. It was the first day of Tet. "I just didn't want to play all previously released songs. I wanted the fans to have something different and something with some new perspective mixed in with the songs that helped get us to where we are now\," Brandon said. In this 2 disc set you will hear more outside-written songs. Songs like "You Can't Outdrink the Truth" by Walt Wilkins and Liz Rose and "Nowhere USA" by Keith Gattis. "Shine" by good friend and guitarist in the band\, Matt Powell. "In The Country" by Jon Randall and the final track called "Lucky Man" by Paul Thorn. Brandon adds\, "There are so many great writers and performers out there that I admire and I have wanted to record these tracks for some time. I also relate to these songs\, so I can sing them with ease and conviction\, no pun intended. It's nice to get to sing such great tunes." Of course\, Brandon made sure to give the fans what they wanted too. Songs like "Freeze Frame Time\," "Backroads\," and "Let the Good Times Roll" are all staples for any given Brandon Rhyder show. "As an artist there are songs that define your career and those songs need to be played at shows and most definitely placed on a "Live at Billy Bob's Texas" record. We are so blessed to live this crazy dream and our fans are the reason we get to do so. I say it each night; without them\, I'm a nine to fiver\," Brandon tells me with a smile. It's easy to see and hear when you listen to this collection of tunes that Brandon really gave all he had on this recording...just like he does each and every night his feet touch the stage! Throughout her childhood\, she performed alongside her musician brothers as part of the trio Bri Bagwell and the Band of Brothers in a specially-built music studio on the side of their farmhouse. Her musical influences include Miranda Lambert\, Patty Griffin and Johnny Cash. You can check out our review of her CD\, 'Banned From Santa Fe' here. Here's Bri Bagwell performing on the TV show 'Texas Music Scene'\, hosted by Ray Benson: Randy Houser Randy Houser is a man refreshed. “I don’t know how it happened\, but everything in my life has started lining up\,” says the Lake\, Mississippi native. “I must have done somebody right in the past.” Houser’s own past contains no shortage of achievement\, including multiple nominations for ACM and CMA Awards\, a #2 single in the form of “Boots On\,” and songwriting credits for major names such as Trace Adkins\, Justin Moore and Chris Young. In 2008—mere months after the release of his debut single\, “Anything Goes”—Houser was even asked by David Letterman himself to appear on the Late Show. The singer’s first full-length\, Anything Goes\, came out later that year\, followed in 2010 by They Call Me Cadillac. “How Country Feels\,” the sparkling first single from Houser’s Stoney Creek debut with producer Derek George\, Houser’s been wanting to work with for a decade. “It was the obvious choice for a leadoff\,” Houser says of “How Country Feels.” “It caught my ear the first time I heard it—like\, ‘I wanna hear that again.’” Other new tracks echo the single’s sunny self-assurance\, including “We’re Just Growing Younger” and “Along for the Ride\,” which Houser co-wrote with Zac Brown. “We were playing a festival and I just had this song rolling around in my head\,” Houser remembers of the latter. “I stayed up till about 5 in the morning but then got stuck. So I called up Zac and we went on his bus and knocked it out of the park.” As for the album’s sound\, Houser says it’s shaping up as his most expansive outing yet\, with more bells and whistles than he’s used in the past; it also showcases the remarkable voice that led Vince Gill to call Houser “one of the best in the new crop of country singer-songwriters” and caused his pal Jamey Johnson to say\, “I watched a blind man jump to his feet and drop his crutches the first time he heard Randy Houser sing. Still\, the heart of the album—of Houser’s entire outlook right now—remains the story of a man who’s moved through darkness into light. “I feel like I’ve reached such a special moment\,” he says\, and it’s a true pleasure to hear him inside it. With the release of their latest studio album\, 'Burn.Flicker.Die.'\, American Aquarium is proving that they have graduated to that class of professional musicians that have made an undeniable commitment to their music and their fans. Here's American Aquarium with a live performance of their song 'Casualties': The Dirty River Boys You can tell a lot about a group of musicians by the name they give themselves. The Dirty River Boys make music with the type of sound and texture that is soaked in the realities of the hard-scrabble city they call home in the far west Texas desert. Members Nino Cooper\, Travis Stearns\, Marco Gutierrez and newest member Colton James on stand-up bass/banjo have become quickly renowned for their rousing live shows which feature the boys winning four-part harmonies and stout acoustic instrumentation. Fans clamored for the release of the band’s first two EPs\, Long Cold Fall and Train Station\, and buzz for their first full-length LP which is deafening. The live intensity of the Dirty River Boys is difficult to duplicate in a studio environment\, but these Boys make that transition seamless. It takes determination and talent to make waves when you come from the dust and dirt of El Paso\, but the Dirty River Boys are continually proving they are up to the challenge. By utilizing traditional folk instruments with rock and bluegrass arrangements\, they are blazing a trail paved by their own\, unique style of music. The Dirty River Boys style blows away any preconceived notions of what acoustic music can be. Harmonicas and fiddles cut melodies that blend with furious licks spilling from guitars and mandolins alongside explosive percussive rhythms all combined to create a whirling dervish of musicality. Here are the Dirty River Boys talking about\, and performing their song 'Raise Some Hell Tonight' on the TV show Texas Music Scene:

Kyle Park Kyle Park has an uncanny ability to write songs for everyone. His songs and singing manage to connect with a wide audience. Based out of San Marcos\, Texas\, Kyle's ability to identify with an audience\, along with a terrific voice and top-notch touring band has Park's services in high demand throughout Texas\, and across the United States. His popularity continues to rise with every new album release\, with his latest offering 'Make Or Break Me' jumping to #15 on the Top Heatseekers Chart\, and approaching the top 50 on the U.S. Country Music Charts. As his career continues to earn him praise an recognition\, Kyle Park just keeps getting better and better as time goes on. The Red Dirt Pavilion has a covered stage and dance floor. Bring your lawn chairs\, and coolers (no glass please) and come out and enjoy fun filled weekends featuring great live music. Thieving Birds Thieving Birds are a band from Fort Worth\, Texas that was formed in September of 2010. These four friends combine Rock\, Country\, Roots and Blues to create a unique musical offering to their audience. The lyrics are thoughtful and strong being carried by the sultry and powerful voice of vocalist and guitarist Ace Crayton. The Rhythm section is filled out by the strong and solid drumming of Beau Brauer along with the precise Bass playing of Rody Molder. Lead Guitarist John Seidler weaves notes together to create a landscape of guitar work that will make you feel as if you’re moving across the terrain of their great state. They released their debut\, self-titled album in June\, 2011 and entertain and amuse audiences with their high- energy live sets. “All we want to do is play music together\, to have that moment on stage when we’re all feeling the song\, and to have the crowd share that moment with us… you can’t get that feeling anywhere else. That’s live music. That’s why we do it” says Crayton. Dean Seltzer and the Redneck Mothers Dean plays music because he loves it and has no desire to do anything else. He's done shows with superstars like Dwight Yokam\, Aaron Tippin\, Molly Hatchet\, Bad Company\, Jimmy Vaughn\, Charlie Daniels\, David Allan Coe\, Billy Joe Shaver to name just a few. He's played in front of crowds as large as 56\,000\, and Seltzer brings what he calls\, "a high energy obnoxious redneck rock n roll" show to the stage every time out. Cody Johnson Logic would tell you that Cody Johnson and his band have a long way to go to hit their potential. However\, with only 2 albums into his music career\, and still very much on the youthful side\, the Huntsville\, Texas native is well ahead of the curve. Cody Johnson possesses a are a rare blend of talent and youth\, and when combined with his enormous dedication to his music and great work ethic\, you’re bound to outperform expectations. And he has. Cody came into the Texas music scene\, seemingly from out of nowhere in 2010\, and has impressed everyone who crosses his path. It’s easy to get caught up in the easy to identify with songs Johnson writes\, and the energy and quality brought to the live show is comparable to the likes of Aaron Watson (yes\, I went there folks). Cody is currently featured on the Texas music scene-based reality TV show 'Troubadour TX'.
