Delicious Holiday Drinks – Shay’s Top 5

Facebook/Egg Nog
The holiday always brings with it some wonderful smells and tastes. From cooking, baking and even beverages. There are a few beverages that we associate with Christmas and winter nights curled up by the fireplace. These are a few of the choices that come to my mind. You may have a few of your own and you can let us know those in the comment section below.

Egg Nog

Egg nog is a drink associated with the winter holidays and you can only find it on the store shelves pre-made during those months. It is a dairy drink that can be consumed as is or can have a splash of an alcoholic beverage added to it. You can add rum, vodka, bourbon, or brandy for example. Then you top it off with a sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon. I personally think this is a nasty little drink but many folks would disagree with me as it is extremely popular in the U.S. and Canada.

Wassail/Spiced Cider

This drinks origin is South West of England where wassailing is a traditional ceremony with singing and drinking to toast the health of the apple trees that are harvested each year. Wassail it's self is a spiced apple cider drink made from mulled cider made with sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg (I've been known to use red hot candies melted in mine). It's so delicious on a cold winter day and smells absolutely marvelous when cooking.

Hot Chocolate

I love hot chocolate. I remember when I was younger and my little brother played soccer. Those early morning games that were cold meant a nice cup of hot chocolate from the concession stand. That was the best hot chocolate ever. You can even add in some flavors to make it even more seasonal if you wish. Flavors like mint, s'mores, gingerbread and more. I prefer just a plain jane cup of hot chocolate (maybe with a few little marshmallows).

Flavored Coffee

I love the smell of coffee, more than the taste, but with the right flavor added it can be turned into a wonderful seasonal drink. Generally speaking I drink coffee black if I add flavor I like hazelnut but during the holiday's you can also find some wonderful flavors like peppermint, gingerbread, mocha mint, pumpkin spice and more. I'm not a pumpkin fan but I do like the pumpkin spice coffee from Dunkin Donuts.

This one can actually be non-seasonal but I tend to drink them more around the holidays and that is mimosas. I love champagne and when you add in a little orange juice (gotta get that vitamin C) then you have the perfect drink. Christmas morning mimosas with some breakfast (preferably in bed) is a great way to get the day started!
