Federal Court Unanimously Opposes Voter Photo ID Law [POLL]

A Federal court has rejected a Texas law that would require voters to present valid photo identification before voting. The three judge panel agreed unanimously that the law would impose “strict, unforgiving burdens on the poor” when it comes time to go to the polls in November.

An Abilene Reporter-News story reports that while Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said he will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, Thursday’s decision pretty much seals the fact that the law won’t be going into effect for the November election.

This is one of the bigger hot button topics in the state, and very polarizing. Republicans believe that passing this law would be a step in the name of stamping out voter fraud. Democrats say fraud at the polls is largely non-existent and that Republicans are simply trying to confine not only minorities and poor people, but also college students. These are all groups that tend to favor Democrats in the polls.

Where do you stand on this issue?  Do you think the Federal court made a mistake in their decision, or did they get it right? Should Texas voters be required to bring a valid ID to the polls? Take the poll, and feel free to share additional thoughts in the comment section below.
