‘Firefly’ Reunion: Nathan Fillion Explains the Story That Never Made it to Air

Firefly Reunion Browncoats Unite
FOX

Joss Whedon’s legendary sci-fi series ‘Firefly‘ may have come and gone, with all its actors ten years older and firmly entrenched in other projects, but no true fan (or Browncoat) will ever lose faith in the ability to re-light the ‘Firefly.’  Toward that end, this Satuday will see the Science Channel airing ‘Firefly: Browncoats Unite,’ a ten-year anniversary retrospective of the beloved series.  Of course, the question will always remain if the series could return in some format, but even then, what stories is Nathan Fillion revealing that were never produced for TV?

As further proof that no one can take the sky from us, ‘Firefly: Browncoats Unite’ will make its long-awaited debut this Saturday on the Science Channel, commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the legendary cancelled sci-fi series.  In addition to the many topics discussed in the special, Entertainment Weekly had a chance to chat with the cast following the recent panel at New York Comic-Con, wherein series star Nathan Fillion revealed some surprising new details of ‘Firefly’ stories that never were.

Fillion explained how a number of the cast members were drawn to writing their own ‘Firefly’ tales, but series comic relief Alan Tudyk in particular came up with the most intricate episode ideas:

He had a great one where there were some criminals who engage in illegal dogfights, and there was a planet where one side of the planet was perpetual night. They had these big, feral dogs there that were so mean and awful, and we had to go out and trap them. We had this dog pheromone of some kind, and Jayne was messing around, and splat!, the thing bursts and we’re all covered in this pheromone.

So we have to run back to the ship with these feral dogs chasing us, and we get the dogs back to the hold of the ship, and we’re safe. But in the journey back to get them back to the criminals, River comes in, communes with the dogs, and domesticates them. So now they’re the same dogs, just nice.

But of course, the question remains if said story, or any other could make it in for a real reunion special, a topic the ‘Firefly’ cast is always happy to address.  Check out a clip from the Science channel special ‘Firefly: Browncoats Unite’ courtesy of IGN, and be sure to tune in this weekend!  Let us know your ideas in the comments!
