Fourth of July Events In and Around Abilene
The Fourth of July is just around the corner as firework stands are up and running, plans are being made for family and friends to get together and event organizers everywhere are planning for their annual fireworks display, all to celebrate our independence. With the day getting closer, let’s run down some Fourth of July events in Abilene.
Fireworks Display – Abilene
This year, the WesTex Connect Fireworks Spectacular will be on July 3rd at Nelson Park from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. It's free to the public, but if you want to get the VIP package, that will cost you. Prices for the VIP package is $15 for adults, $10-Ages 6-12 years, and free for ages 5 and younger. The package includes 1 VIP parking pass and 6 VIP tickets that are each good for admission to the zoo, seating in Festival Gardens (lawn chairs & blankets permitted) and food & drink by Sharon's Barbecue. Buffalo Gap Historic Village Jeep Jamboree
The Buffalo Gap Historic Village will have their annual Jeep Jamboree on July 4th. The free event starts off with a parade at 9:30am, followed by a ceremony at 10am, the Big Country Off-Road Jeep Show at10am and a concert featuring Callahan Divide at 11am. Possum Kingdom Fireworks at Hell's Gate
Just a short drive from Abilene is Possum Kingdom Lake which will have a fireworks display at Hell's Gate on July 6th. The activities get started at 6:30pm and goes until 10pm. View the firework show by boat on the water or enjoy watching the show from the YMCA Camp Grady Spruce - located at the end of Park Road 36. Admission is $5. Alcohol and pets are prohibited. Hillcrest Neighborhood July 4th Parade
This year marks the 17th Annual Hillcrest Neighborhood July 4th Parade, starting at 10am on July 4th. The parade starts at Campus Ct. and Bacon Dr. The public is welcome to participate in the parade, no livestock or horses allowed, however, bring your bikes , strollers, antique cars, roller skates, wagons or just sit and enjoy the parade. Afterwards everyone is invited to the Hillcrest church gym for homemade ice cream and cookies. For more information call Liz Rotenberry (325) 669-9115.
The Rising Star Freedom Festival
The Rising Star 18th Annual Freedom Festival is scheduled to be held on July 6, 2013. That weekend will be full of events to satisfy just about everyone. The Community Wide Garage Sales will be starting July 4th, and will continue through the 6th. Contact Judy Green at: (254)-643-5048 to be put on the map. A $3 fee will be charged for the listing. Maps listing garage sale locations will be available at the Star Grocery Store on Texas Highway 36 and downtown during the open-air market at some of the booths.
July 4th Family Fun Fireworks in Woodson
Hosted by the Throckmorton Chamber of Commerce, the 12th Annual 4th of July Family Fun & Fireworks Blowout begins at 6:00 p.m. July 4th, 2013. There will be wholesome family fun with games, entertainment and a fireworks display at dusk. Plus, there will be hotdogs, french fries, watermelon, homemade ice cream, cotton candy and lots of fun and games. Fourth of July BBQ Party
If you're not wanting to go anywhere and just hang at the house, you just can’t go wrong with throwing some meat on the grill - especially on Independence Day. Throw on some steaks or burgers, get the beverages on ice and just hang with your family and friends I listed some adult beverages that may make your party pretty interesting.
