Free Tax Preparation Available in Abilene January 22nd at the West Central Texas Center for Economic Opportunity
It’s only January and I realize the last thing you want to think about are taxes. However, for those of you who are overachievers and want to get it done early there is a great opportunity to get them done free. Starting Tuesday, January 22nd the West Central Texas Center for Economic Opportunity will provide free tax service.
This year there are more new tax issues to be aware of than last year and you want to make sure you get back everything you can. The folks helping prepare your return have been updated on all these new issues and can in turn make sure your tax return will be correct. (Hopefully with a refund!)
Although the service is free there are a few things you should bring along with you, including a valid form of ID. Last year the center helped Big Country residence get back more than $2.3 million in tax refunds.
Here are the items you will need to take along with you when getting your taxes done:
- Valid Photo ID (Driver’s License, State ID or Student ID)
- Social Security Cards (all household members)
- All 2012 W-2, 1099 & 1098 forms
- Blank Check with routing number & account number
- Receipts for charitable gifts, medical expenses (including insurance), college expenses (including books), or child care expenses
The West Central Texas Center for Economic Opportunity is located at 1102 N. 3rd Street (downtown Abilene). Although walk-ins are welcome, you will be taken care of upon availability, it is best to call ahead for an appointment at (325) 672-8980.
