“Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” still might provide an endless source of inspiration for fans of ‘Friday Night Lights,’ but ever since the series ended and talk of a movie has kicked around the way most TV shows always do, it’s been hard to keep the faith.  So according to the show’s creator and stars, what’s the spread on whether or not it really happens?

Thankfully, ‘Friday Night Lights’ creator Peter Berg remains adamant that a feature film-adaptation of the critically acclaimed TV series (distinct from the original film) was still in the cards, firmly stating “We’re doing the movie” in a recent interview with Details.  Particularly, Berg notes that in spite of the world-wide press tours he and former ‘Friday Night Lights’ star Taylor Kitsch engage in for ‘Battleship‘ or ‘John Carter,’ most often questions still arise about the former NBC football series.

But what ground would the film cover, aside from picking up on Coach Eric (Kyle Chandler) and wife Tami Taylor (Connie Britton) after the series finale? Earlier this year, Berg revealed that the movie would be inspired by the true story of Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, who was wrongfully accused of abusing a player, and let go from his position. Says Berg of the potential film’s full focus:

“I put Leach in a little cameo in ‘Friday Night Lights’ and I started to become friends with him, and then he got fired. I really studied that entire situation — his getting fired and the accusations made against him by Adam James, and the pressure that his father, Craig James, put on Leach, using his ESPN bully pulpit.

Craig James is a f—ing scumbag, helicopter dad—and everything wrong with the culture I observed in Texas. Mike Leach never put that kid in a closet. The kid admitted it. It was a total lie. Now Mike Leach has the Washington State University job and he’s got carte blanche. It’s a great comeback story.”

Even with a story set in place, there would still be plenty of stars to corral, now with full careers of their own.  Berg remains confident that Kyle Chandler would be inclined to do the film, and Britton seems committed to the cause as well.  Britton recounts how she asked executive producer Jason Katims during a recent meeting if the ‘Friday Night Lights’ movie would ever happen, to which he responded “‘Look behind you.’ And I look behind me and it’s a wall with a big, huge corkboard on it with all these 3×5 cards. That’s what these writers do, they do the whole story on 3×5 cards. He’s like, That’s the movie.’ ”

If indeed clear eyes and full hearts can’t lose, we may very well see the Panthers up in ‘Friday Night Lights’ once more, hopefully within the near future.  What say you?  Has the time past for a ‘FNL’ movie, and does the series even need one?  Hike us your thoughts in the comments!
