Country star Gary Allan has announced his upcoming album is titled 'Set You Free,' and will see release in the early part of next year. The gravelly-voiced singer, whose current single 'Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)' is the first taste of the upcoming project, gave journalists the news at a private album preview in Nashville recently.

He produced some tracks himself, working with producers Mark Wright and Jay Joyce on other cuts, and he says that approach yielded positive results.

"I've always done albums with one guy, and you pick 10 or 12 songs and the result is you end up with a lot of album cuts because you do it all at the same time," Allan notes (quote via the Boot). "It's OK if you have 10 songs and one of them isn't that great, or two of them you think would be good to hear later, but when I'm doing four and you're doing four and he's doing four, everybody wants to make sure that their four are good. The result is we've got better songs, because everybody wanted their four to be strong and it was more competitive."

The album's lead single takes a more optimistic lyrical turn for the singer, whose work has been dominated by songs of pain and loss. The title 'Set You Free' comes from a line in 'Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain),' and Allan says that theme carries over into the entire project.

"Every storm runs out of rain," he reflects, "so I think that's what this album is about, is me coming up for air."
