Granger Smith has released his new single, "Happens Like That" -- the first glimpse of his his upcoming album. Readers can press play below to hear the track.

After the success of Smith's No. 1 single "Backroad Song" and the Top 5 hit "If the Boot Fits," Smith has high hopes for his latest tune. With the help of songwriters Jordan Schmidt, Justin Wilson and Andy Albert, along with Tyler Hubbard from Florida Georgia Line, Smith developed "Happens Like That" in the back of a tour bus, outside of a show in Washington State. The laid-back, hopeful tune captures the sense of destiny that Smith tells Billboard is the inspiration behind the song.

“The song came from the idea that as soon as you sort of stop looking and are content with being single, that’s when the love of your life walks into your life,” the singer explains. “That narrative unfolded as all of us had lived it. It’s when we least expect it — it happens like that.”

A bit of a switch from the upbeat and playful "If the Boot Fits," "Happens Like That" offers a more low-key look at love. The song was one of the first that Smith recorded for his upcoming album, and, he says, "I'm really happy with the live room we captured for a darker groove, story-driven tune."

"Happens Like That" will officially impact country radio on June 12. The album on which the song will appear, the details of which have yet to be announced, will be the follow-up project to Smith's 2016 album Remington.
