Hendrick Hospice Care plans to build a brand new 41,000 square foot facility. Currently, Hendrick's outpatient hospice is in one location, while their inpatient facility is inside Hendricks Medical Center and the administrative offices are in another location. This new $10.4 million Hospice Care Center will put all the hospice services in one location.

The groundbreaking is set to begin February 2015, with a completion date of May 2016. As of Tuesday March 4th Hospice Care had raised over $5 million from philanthropic gifts. The remaining $5.4 million will be raised through "naming opportunities", for example a $20,000 donation gets your name on one of the 'counseling rooms'. A $40,000 donation gets your name on one of the 'patient rooms'. $1,000,000 gives you the naming rights to the new Bereavement Center. To donate, go to the Hendrick Medical Center Foundation website.

Hendrick Hospice Care Center will include:

  • 16 patient rooms (with potential expansion for eight additional rooms)
  • Adult Family Room
  • Teen Family Room
  • Kids Family Room
  • Bereavement Center and Library
  • Administrative and Home Care offices
  • Chapel
  • Community Room
  • Counseling Room

Hendrick CEO Tim Lancaster said "The new facility will give patients and their families more room in a home-like atmosphere, while allowing the hospice care professionals to continue caring for the patient." The announcement and plans were revealed during the '30th Anniversary Celebration' at the Abilene Civic Center. Special guest speaker for the event was famed author Mitch Albom, known for his best seller and movie "Tuesday's With Morrie".

The new Hendrick Hospice Care facility will be located at North 17th and Pine Street, clearing of the 8.7 acres has already begun however, construction on the new facility starts in early 2015.
