Just last week, Disney trekked 'Into the Woods' to start production on its adaptation of James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's Broadway hit. Featuring a star-studded cast and crew, the film has released its first official image of the lovely Meryl Streep as the not-so-lovely witch.

Photos leaking from the set have already given us an idea of what Chris Pine, Anna Kendrick and Emily Blunt will look like on the big screen, but none are more terrifying than Streep tackling the role Bernadette Peters originated on Broadway in 1987 -- except for, perhaps, Mrs. 'Devil Wears Prada' herself.

'Into the Woods' is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

Among the cast are the previously mentioned Emily Blunt (as the Baker's wife) Anna Kendrick (as Cinderella) and Chris Pine (Cinderella's prince), as well as James Corden as the Baker, Johnny Depp as the Wolf with eyes for Little Red Riding Hood (played by Lilla Crawford), Daniel Huttlestone as Jack from 'Jack and the Beanstalk' fame, Tracey Ullman as Jack's mother, Christine Baranski as the infamous stepmother, MacKenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel, and Billy Magnussen as Rapunzel's prince.

Rob Marshall ('Chicago,' 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides') directs 'Into the Woods' from a screenplay by Lapine, with music by Sondheim, including a brand-new song for the film. It's currently set to hit theaters December 25, 2014.
