We already know Jake Owen is taking notes for his opening set by watching Tim McGraw nightly on their Brothers of the Sun Tour, but it looks as though the father-to-be is now looking to McGraw as polished paternal figure, following the announcement he and wife Lacey Buchanan are expecting their first child this fall.

“Even doing what we do, guys out here show that it’s possible to be a good dad,” Owen tells CMT, speaking of watching his fellow road warriors. “Tim was just outside working out, and he has his daughters right there with him. I just have to maintain my focus. I don’t want people thinking this will deter my perseverance.”

The newlywed adds, “That’s why I love Lacey — she loves me and believes in me more than any person I’ve ever met in my life. Thank God for her, because she’s gonna be an absolutely amazing mother. She’s the most caring human being I’ve ever met in my life.”

Owen admits that he is a “really impatient person,” which is something he got from his father. “I like to have things my way, at the time that my mind tells me I want them,” he says. “That’s sometimes a big fault of mine. Lacey’s taught me to be a lot more patient.”

Due in November, baby girl Owen has a few prospective names lined up, but the proud daddy isn’t making the list public. “No names,” Owen says, before quickly changing his tune. “Well, we have names we like, but we’re gonna hold them to ourselves.”

Owen and Buchanan found out about their pregnancy shortly before getting married on May 7 in an intimate sunrise ceremony. The happy couple disclosed the gender of their bundle of joy following their first ultrasound on July 2.

“I was scared at first, because I don’t know anything about girls,” says Owen. “I was like, ‘Let’s find out what the baby is.’ I wasn’t into the surprise of it. I was already surprised when I found out she was pregnant.”

Until the arrival of his daughter, Owen will no doubt stay busy this year in his music career. The singer continues to travel the country on McGraw and Kenny Chesney‘s Brothers of the Sun Tour, with dates scheduled through the end of August. Owen will remain on the road promoting his latest album, ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night,’ through October.
